Qatar, Tajikistan to hold counter-terrorism meet

DOHA: The State of Qatar and the Republic of Tajikistan will organise today and tomorrow a high-level international conference on combating terrorism and the prevention of violent extremism in cooperation with the UN, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the European Union in Dushanbe.

Minister of Foreign Affairs’ Special Envoy on Counterterrorism and Mediation in Dispute Settlement, Ambassador, H E Dr Mutlaq bin Majed Al Qahtani, will attend the conference, which is expected to witness wide international participation.

The conference aims to address the security challenges facing the countries of the world and unite efforts to counter terrorism, radicalism and violent extremism as the main feeder of instability in many parts of the world. It also aims at creating a common understanding of current challenges and exploring opportunities for strengthening partnership and cooperation at the national, regional and international levels to combat terrorism and violent extremism in addition to share opportunities and challenges in the implementation of Tajikistan’s national counter-terrorism strategy.

The conference looks forward to identifying the trends and challenges of extremism, the role of youth, ideology and information in preventing and combating violent extremism leading to terrorism, as well as sharing experiences in combating it and focusing on preventing foreign terrorist fighters (FTF) threats.

تنظم دولة قطر وجمهورية طاجيكستان، اليوم وغداً، بالعاصمة الطاجيكية دوشنبه، المؤتمر الدولي الرفيع المستوى لمكافحة الإرهاب ومنع التطرف العنيف، بالتعاون مع الأمم المتحدة، ومنظمة الأمن والتعاون في أوروبا والاتحاد الأوروبي.

ويشارك في المؤتمر سعادة السفير الدكتور مطلق بن ماجد القحطاني المبعوث الخاص لوزير الخارجية لمكافحة الإرهاب والوساطة في تسوية المنازعات، وينتظر أن تشهد الفعاليات مشاركة دولية واسعة.

ويهدف المؤتمر إلى التصدي للتحديات الأمنية التي تواجه بلدان العالم، وتوحيد الجهود لمواجهة الإرهاب والراديكالية والتطرف العنيف، باعتبارها المغذي الرئيسي لعدم الاستقرار في أجزاء كثيرة من العالم. كما يهدف إلى خلق فهم مشترك للتحديات الحالية، واستكشاف الفرص لتعزيز الشراكة والتعاون على المستويات الوطنية والإقليمية والدولية لمكافحة الإرهاب والتطرف العنيف، وتقاسم الفرص والتحديات في تنفيذ استراتيجية طاجيكستان الوطنية لمكافحة الإرهاب.

ويتطلع المؤتمر إلى تحديد اتجاهات وتحديات التطرف، ودور الشباب والأيديولوجيا والمعلومات في منع ومكافحة التطرف العنيف المؤدي إلى الإرهاب، وتبادل الخبرات في مكافحته، والتركيز على منع تهديدات الإرهابيين الأجانب «FTF»، وجرد الآليات المحلية والإقليمية لمكافحة الإرهاب، وتعزيز التعاون ضد الإرهاب الإلكتروني، وتطوير المبادئ التوجيهية لمكافحة التطرف العنيف في الفضاء الإلكتروني.;
