Ashghal Announces the Completion of Doha Corniche Development

The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has announced the completion of the Doha Corniche Development project implemented along a distance of 9 km from Dafna area to Ras bu Aboud Bridge. The opening was held in the presence of CMC members Mr. Jassem Abdulla Al-Maliki, and Mrs. Shaikha Al-Jufairi, Member of CMC Member and Eng. Abdulla Ibrahim Al Sada, Director of Technical Affairs Department in Doha Municipality along with a number of Ashghal staff.

Ashghal started implementing this project in October 2017, within an integrated plan to develop Corniche areas in Doha, Al Khor, Shamal City and Al Wakra Beach, as part of Corporate Social Responsibility.

The Doha Corniche Development project included extended expansion and maintenance including flooring, parking lots and toilets. All pedestrian walkways between the parking lots and the main walkway of Doha Corniche are also renovated using new interlock with a variety of designs, shapes and colors. This is in addition to replacing the floor of the public yard in the Corniche with new interlocks having seven squares of different sizes.

The project also included renovation of all parking slots in Doha Corniche by replacing old Interlock with a more solid asphalt layer enabling ease of maintenance in the future.

Eng. Abdulla Ibrahim Al Sada, Director of Technical Affairs at Doha Municipality, praised Ashghal’s efforts to implement the development and maintenance of Doha Corniche, as it is one premier tourist destination in the State of Qatar.

Mr. Jassim Abdulla Al Malki, CMC Member of Constituency One said that Ashghal has opened Corniches at Al Wakra, Shamal, Al Khor and Doha as a gift to the people and the country.

Shaikha Al Jufairi, CMC Member of Constituency Eight said, “what distinguishes this Corniche is that it will serve all visitors to Doha City, especially after the completion of this development project.”

Eng. Noora Al Mansouri of the Building Design Department at Ashghal said that the design for this development project was selected and approved from multiple designs presented by a team of new engineers, and Doha Corniche renovation project was completed within a period of 7 months.

Al-Mansouri added also that the concrete parts of the seawater were repaired and 24 public toilets were completely refurbished in Doha Corniche, along with installation of 10 facilities within a span from Sheraton Park to Al-Shuyoukh Port opposite Souq Waqif, and these facilities are connected with surface water network and electricity in cooperation with other service providers. The 2006 Asian games oryx mascot will also be renovated.

Ashghal has considered the Doha Corniche Development Project as one of the most important projects considering the tourist attraction of the place. Doha Corniche serves as an open space for the people with a distinctive waterfront park that stretches around Doha Bay on an area of ​​approximately 120,000 square meters. It is also one important sport destination for all who wish to practice outdoor sports in fresh air, free of vehicles. Doha Corniche offers stunning views of the city including the skyscrapers, the city’s business center and the art pieces of the Museum of Islamic Art. The traditional wooden dhows in the clear waters reflect the charming history of the city.

أعلنت هيئة الأشغال العامة “أشغال” عن اكتمال تنفيذ أعمال تطوير وصيانة كورنيش الدوحة، على امتداد المسافة من منطقة الدفنة وحتى جسر راس بوعبود بطول 9 كيلومتر، بحضور السيد جاسم عبدالله المالكي، عضو المجلس البلدي بالدائرة الأولى، والسيدة شيخة الجفيري، عضو المجلس البلدي بالدائرة الثامنة و المهندس عبدالله ابراهيم السادة، مدير إدارة الشؤون الفنية في بلدية الدوحة وعدد من مسؤولي الهيئة.

وكانت الهيئة قد بدأت بتنفيذ المشروع في أكتوبر 2017، وذلك ضمن خطة متكاملة وضعتها الهيئة لتطوير وصيانة مناطق الكورنيش في كل من مدينة الدوحة ومدينة الخور والشمال بالإضافة إلى تطوير شاطئ الوكرة، وذلك في إطار المسؤلية المجتمعية التي تتبناها الهيئة.

شمل مشروع كورنيش الدوحة تنفيذ أعمال تطوير وصيانة واسعة شملت الارضيات، مواقف السيارات، ودورات المياه كما تم تجديد جميع ممرات المشاه ما بين مواقف السيارات والممشى الرئيسي لكورنيش الدوحة، وذلك من خلال تركيب إنترلوك جديد بتصاميم وأشكال وألوان مختلفة عن التصميم السابق. هذا بالإضافة إلى استبدال أرضيات الساحات العمومية في الكورنيش بإنترلوك جديد، وهي تضم سبع ساحات بأحجام مختلفة.

شملت أعمال المشروع أيضاً تجديد أرضيات 580 موقف للسيارات في كورنيش الدوحة، وذلك من خلال استبدال الانترلوك القديم بطبقة اسفلتية كونها تعد أكثر صلابة، بالإضافة إلى سهولة تنفيذ أعمال الصيانة بها في المستقبل.

وأثنى المهندس عبدالله ابراهيم السادة، مدير إدارة الشؤون الفنية في بلدية الدوحة، على جهود “أشغال” لتنفيذ أعمال تطوير وصيانة كورنيش الدوحة، ولاسيما أنه يمثل أحد المعالم السياحية في قطر.

وقال السيد جاسم عبدالله المالكي، عضو المجلس البلدي بالدائرة الأولى، أن “أشغال” افتتحت كلاً من كورنيش الوكرة، الشمال، الخور والدوحة، وذلك بمثابة هدية قدمتها للمواطنيين والمقيمين في دولتنا الحبيبة قطر.

وقالت السيدة شيخة الجفيري، عضو المجلس البلدي بالدائرة الثامنة: “ما يميز هذا الكورنيش أنه سيخدم كل زوار مدينة الدوحة، خصوصاً بعد تنفيذ أعمال تطوير وصيانة الكورنيش.”

كما صرحت المهندسة نورة المنصوري، مهندسة بإدارة تصاميم المباني في الهيئة، أنه تم طرح أكثر من تصميم من قبل فريق من المهندسين الجدد، وتم اختيار واعتماد التصميم قبل المسؤولين وقد بلغت المدة الزمنية لتنفيذ مشروع تجديد كورنيش الدوحة 7 شهور فقط.

وأضافت المنصوري، أنه تمت صيانة الأجزاء الخرسانية الساندة لمياه البحر، كما تم تجديد 24 دورة مياه عمومية بالكامل في كورنيش الدوحة، إلى جانب تم تجهيز10 أماكن معدة في منطقة كورنيش الدوحة تمتد من حديقة الشيراتون إلى ميناء الشيوخ مقابل سوق واقف، كما سيتم ترميم شخصية المها التابعة لبطولة الألعاب الآسيوية 2006.

يعد مشروع صيانة وتطوير كورنيش الدوحة من المشاريع الهامة لدى “أشغال” والتي تحظى بطابع خاص حيث أن كورنيش الدوحة من أهم المعالم السياحية للدولة ويعد متنفساً للمواطنين والمقيمين كونه متنزه مميز ذي واجهة مائية تمتد حول خليج الدوحة على مساحة مائة وعشرون ألف متراً مربعاً تقريباً، فضلاً عن كونه أحد الوجهات التي يقصدها كل من يرغب في ممارسة الرياضة في الهواء الطلق ضمن مساحات طبيعية خالية من حركة المركبات. ويوفر الكورنيش إطلالات خلابة على المدينة لتشمل الأبراج الشاهقة ومركز أعمال المدينة والمجسمات البارزة لمتحف الفن الإسلامي، كما تعكس القوارب الخشبية التقليدية في مياه الخليج الصافية سحر ماضي المدينة وعبق تاريخها.
