Illegal immigration to Europe records biggest decline since 2013

Brussels: The number of attempts to migrate illegally to Europe has declined over the past year, against the backdrop of the fallout from the Coronavirus (COVED-19) pandemic.

The number of illegal border crossings detected at the EU’s external borders fell by 13 percent in 2020, compared with the previous year, the European Border Protection Agency (Frontex) said in a statement.

“The number of illegal border crossings detected along the EU’s external borders dropped by 13 percent last year to about 124,000, in large part due to the impact of the Covid -19 restrictions put in place by different countries,” the statement said.

In its statement, the European Agency noted that according to preliminary figures compiled by Frontex, this was the lowest number of illegal crossing attempts at Europe’s external borders since 2013.

وذكرت وكالة حماية الحدود الأوروبية (فرونتكس)، في بيان لها أن عدد الحالات غير الشرعية لعبور الحدود التي تم اكتشافها على الحدود الخارجية للاتحاد الأوروبي انخفض بنسبة 13 بالمئة في عام 2020، مقارنة بالعام الذي يسبقه.

وأضاف البيان “انخفض عدد عمليات الكشف عن المعابر الحدودية غير القانونية على طول الحدود الخارجية للاتحاد الأوروبي بنسبة 13 بالمئة العام الماضي إلى حوالي 124 ألفا، ويرجع ذلك في جزء كبير منه إلى تأثير قيود (كوفيد-19) التي وضعتها دول مختلفة”.

وأشارت الوكالة الأوروبية، في بيانها، إلى أنه وفقا للأرقام الأولية التي جمعتها (فرونتكس)، كان هذا أقل عدد محاولات العبور غير الشرعية للحدود الخارجية لأوروبا منذ عام 2013.
