Five Qatar Airways Cargo planes depart to China with medical supplies

Doha: Five Qatar Airways Cargo freighters departed to China yesterday carrying approximately 300 tonnes of medical supplies donated by the airline to support Cornavirus relief efforts.
The five flights departed one after the other bound for Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou as part of Qatar Airways’ voluntary offer of free air cargo transportation for medical relief aid organised by Chinese Embassies and Consulates worldwide to fight the coronavirus emergency, said a Qatar Airways statement.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, H E Akbar Al Baker, said: “When this crisis began, we knew we had to support our friends in China. As one of the leading air cargo carriers in the world, we are in a unique position where we are able to provide immediate humanitarian support through the provision of aircraft and donating medical supplies as well as coordinating logistical arrangements.”
“By working with the Chinese Embassy in Qatar we hope our combined efforts can help limit the spread of this virus, ease the burden on local medical personnel and provide relief to the impacted communities in China,” he added.
The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the State of Qatar, H E Zhou Jian, who attended the convoy’s departure along with Qatar Airways’ Group Chief Executive, said: “At this critical moment when Chinese people nationwide are fighting against the Coronavirus, Qatar Airways has opened a “Green Channel” for donating and transporting medical supplies to China. This is a channel of love, friendship, solidarity and hope. We are deeply grateful for that.
“The kindness of Qatar fully reflects the fraternal friendship the Qatari government and the people of Qatar have for the Chinese people. It is also a symbol of Qatar’s internationalism, and a symbol of solidarity among the international community to stand together in the face of difficulties. On behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese people. I would like to extend our most sincere thanks to the brotherly Qatari people.”
Yesterday’s convoy follows an earlier batch of critical medical relief aid transported by Qatar Airways Cargo to Shanghai on February 2. The shipment included 100,000 medical-grade N95 respiratory masks and 2,700 medical-grade disposable latex gloves, providing essential protection to healthcare professionals working around the clock at hospitals in Hubei Province, the epicentre of the virus. The airline is planning to transport additional donations in the coming weeks.
The ‘Green Channel’ initiative for complimentary air transportation was announced jointly by Qatar Airways and the Chinese Embassy in Qatar on February 7. Qatar Airways is the first international airline to volunteer emergency relief flight delivery.
Qatar Airways is also working closely with the World Health Organization and local authorities worldwide to safeguard the health and safety of its employees and passengers.
Its modern fleet is protected with High-Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filtration systems, eliminating 99.97% of fine airborne particles from circulating air in cabins, greatly restricting the spread of airborne fungi, viruses and bacteria.

وقالت /القطرية/، في بيان لها، إن خمس طائرات انطلقت تباعاً نحو بكين وشنغهاي وجوانزو، وذلك في إطار جهود الناقلة الوطنية لدولة قطر التي تهدف إلى إيصال الإمدادات الطبية الإغاثية العاجلة إلى الصين لمواجهة فيروس /كورونا/.
وقال سعادة السيد أكبر الباكر، الرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية: “علمنا منذ بداية هذه الأزمة أن علينا المساهمة ومدّ يد العون لأصدقائنا في الصين، وبصفتنا إحدى أهم شركات الشحن الجوي الرائدة في العالم، يسعدنا توظيف خبراتنا وشبكة وجهاتنا العالمية لتوفير الدعم الإنساني لأصدقائنا في الصين، وذلك من خلال توفير الطائرات، والتبرّع بالمستلزمات الطبية، وتنسيق الترتيبات اللوجستية”.
وتابع “نأمل، عن طريق العمل مع السفارة الصينية في قطر، أن تثمر جهودنا المشتركة في الحدّ من انتشار هذا الفيروس، والتخفيف من آثاره على الكادر الطبي المحلّي، وتوفير الإغاثة اللازمة للمجتمعات المتأثرة به في الصين”.
من جانبه، أكد سعادة السيد تشو جيان سفير جمهورية الصين الشعبية لدى الدولة: “في هذه الأوقات العصيبة التي يمرّ بها الشعب الصيني في أرجاء البلاد لمحاربة فيروس /كورونا/ فتحت الخطوط الجوية القطرية “ممراً آمناً” لنقل المساعدات والتبرع بالإمدادات الطبية إلى الصين”، مشيرا إلى أن مثل هذه المبادرة تعدّ دليلاً على علاقات المحبة والصداقة والتضامن والأمل التي تجمع بين البلدين.
وأضاف سعادته “إن التعاطف الذي أبدته دولة قطر يعكس الصداقة المتينة التي تربط بين الحكومة والشعب القطري مع الشعب الصيني،كما يعكس مدى تضامن دولة قطر مع المجتمع الدولي للوقوف في مواجهة الصعوبات والتحديات”.
واختتم السفير الصيني تصريحه بتوجيه الشكر، نيابة عن الحكومة والشعب الصيني، للحكومة القطرية وللشعب القطري.
وتعد قافلة الطائرات المتجهة اليوم إلى الصين الدفعة الثانية من المساعدات الطبية المستعجلة التي أرسلتها القطرية للشحن الجوي إلى شنغهاي يوم 2 فبراير الجاري والتي تضمنت 100 ألف كمامة طبية من نوع N95، و 2700 زوج من القفازات الطبية التي تستعمل لمرةواحدة، مما يساهم في توفير الوقاية الأساسية للكادر الطبي الذي يعمل على مدار الساعة في المستشفيات في مقاطعة هوبي مركز تفشيالفيروس.
وكانت الخطوط الجوية القطرية والسفارة الصينية في الدوحة قد أعلنتا في وقت سابق عن إطلاق مبادرة “الممر الآمن” لنقل المساعدات الطبية جواً إلى الصين.
وتعد الخطوط الجوية القطرية أول شركة طيران دولية تتطوّع لتسيير طائرات المساعدات الإغاثية العاجلة إلى الصين.
كما تعمل الناقلة الوطنية مع منظمة الصحة العالمية والسلطات المحلية في مختلف دول العالم للمحافظة على صحة وسلامة موظفيها ومسافريها، حيث تحمي الناقلة أسطول طائراتها من خلال أنظمة تنقية جزيئات الهواء والتي تقضي على 99.97% من الجسيمات الدقيقة المحمولة في الهواء بمقصورة الطائرة، مما يعني منع انتشار الفطريات المحمولة بالجو والفيروسات والبكتيريا على متن طائراتها.
يشار إلى أن الخطوط الجوية القطرية تنوي إرسال المزيد من المساعدات في الأسابيع القادمة.
