Better and cheaper alternatives to the new iPhone 12 charger

Doha: German tech portal ‘Tech Stedge D’ revealed better and cheaper alternatives to the chargers of the new iPhone 12 announced last October but without chargers or earphones justified by preserving the environment.

The new Apple iPhone 12 models come with a cable with two sides, one USB-C and the other is “Lightning”, noting that there is no need to buy a new charger as long as the user has a charger with USB-C port, according to Al Jazeera Net.

If the user wants to use the fast charging function of the new iPhone 12 or tablet (iPad) it is not necessary to buy expensive Apple accessories, and some alternatives from other companies are sometimes better, and they are much cheaper.

To switch to fast charging mode, the new iPhone 12 series requires a charger with at least 20 watts, while older iPhone models starting with the iPhone 8 require an at least 18-watt charger to use fast charging mode.

There are many iPad tablet models that can be fast-charged when connected to an at least 18-watt charger, including the 12.9-inch iPad Pro (first-generation and newer models), the 11-inch iPad Pro (first-generation and newer models), the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, and the iPad Air (3rd generation), as well as the iPad Mini (5th generation).

What is the USB-PD standard?

An important thing to consider when purchasing a new charger for fast charging functionality with Apple mobile devices is that the new charger supports the USB Power Delivery standard, known as USB-PD.

The German technology portal confirmed that this standard is a necessary requirement for Apple mobile devices to turn into fast charging mode.

The USB-PD charging standard is not limited to Apple devices equipped with iOS, but there are many mobile devices equipped with Google Android support this standard, and there is no problem when the chargers have more watts reserves, which smartphones can receive, so high-performance chargers can be used with Apple and Android devices.

If the user has to replace the USB-C cable to Lightning, take a closer look at the new cable to be purchased, and it doesn’t have to be an original Apple accessory package either, but power transmission problems may arise if the cable is not MFI-certified, which can be identified through the label – made for Apple products ( Made for Apple products) (Made for iPhone/iPad/iPod) – on the packaging.

On October 13, Apple announced the latest generation of iPhone 12, the first to support 5G networks, which are 4 models “iPhone 12, 12 Pro, 12 Max Pro and 12 Mini”.

The four new iPhone 12 phones support wireless charging as any Apple phone since the iPhone 8, but the company has not attached any charger to the new product package wirelessly or through wire under the pretext of preserving the environment, and asked users to purchase the charger separately.

The company put two options for the usual wire charger (put it up for sale for $20) and a new wireless charger called MagSafe for $39.

According to a new review of The Wall Street Journal’s Joanna Setern, the MagSafe wireless charger is twice as slower as the 20-watt USB-C cord, according to Al Jazeera Net.

الدوحة: كشفت بوابة التقنيات “تيك ستيدج. دي” الألمانية عن بدائل أفضل وأرخص لشواحن هواتف آيفون 12 الجديدة التي تم الإعلان عنها أكتوبر الماضي ولكن  دون شواحن أو سماعات أذن مبررة ذلك  بالمحافظة على البيئة.

وأوضحت بوابة “تيك ستيدج” أن موديلات “آيفون 12” الجديدة من “آبل” (Apple) تأتي مزودة بكابل له طرفان، أحدهما “يو إس بي-سي” (USB-C)، والآخر “لايتننغ” (Lightning)، مشيرة إلى أنه ليس هناك ضرورة لشراء شاحن جديد طالما أن هناك شاحناً مزوداً بمنفذ “يو إس بي-سي” لدى المستخدم، بحسب موقع الجزيرة نت.

وإذا رغب المستخدم في استعمال وظيفة الشحن السريع في الهاتف الذكي “آيفون 12” الجديد أو الحاسوب اللوحي “آيباد” (ipad) فليس من الضروري شراء إكسسوارات آبل باهظة التكلفة، بل إن بعض البدائل من الشركات الأخرى تكون أفضل في بعض الأحيان، إلى جانب أنها تكون أرخص بكثير.

وللتحويل إلى وضع الشحن السريع فإن سلسلة هواتف “آيفون 12” الجديدة تتطلب شاحناً بقدرة 20 واطاً على الأقل، فيما موديلات آيفون القديمة بدءا من إصدار “آيفون 8” تحتاج إلى شاحن بقدرة 18 واطا على الأقل لاستعمال وضع الشحن السريع.

وهناك العديد من موديلات الحاسوب اللوحي آيباد التي يمكن شحنها بسرعة عندما يتم توصيلها بشاحن بقدرة 18 واطا على الأقل، ومنها “آيباد برو” 12.9 بوصة (الجيل الأول والموديلات الأحدث)، و”آيباد برو” 11 بوصة (الجيل الأول والموديلات الأحدث)، و”آيباد برو” 10.5 بوصات، و”آيباد آير” (الجيل الثالث)، وكذلك “آيباد ميني” (الجيل الخامس).

ومن الأمور المهمة التي يجب مراعاتها عند شراء شاحن جديد لاستعمال وظيفة الشحن السريع مع أجهزة آبل الجوالة أن يدعم الشاحن الجديد معيار الشحن “يو إس بي باور ديلفري” (USB Power Delivery) المعروف اختصاراً باسم “يو إس بي-بي دي” (USB-PD).

وأكدت بوابة التقنيات الألمانية أن هذا المعيار يعد من الاشتراطات الضرورية لكي تتحول أجهزة آبل الجوالة إلى وضع الشحن السريع.

ولا يقتصر معيار الشحن “يو إس بي-بي دي” على أجهزة آبل المزودة بنظام “آي أو إس” (IOS)، بل إن هناك الكثير من الأجهزة الجوالة المزودة بنظام غوغل أندرويد تدعم هذا المعيار، علاوة على أنه لا توجد مشكلة عندما تتوافر في الشواحن احتياطات واط أكبر، مما يمكن للهواتف الذكية استقبالها، وبالتالي فإنه يمكن استعمال الشواحن فائقة الأداء مع أجهزة آبل وأندرويد.

وإذا اضطر المستخدم إلى استبدال كابل “يو إس بي-سي” إلى “لايتننغ” فلا بد من إلقاء نظرة فاحصة على الكابل الجديد المراد شراؤه، وليس من الضروري أن يكون من باقة إكسسوارات آبل الأصلية أيضاً، ولكن قد تظهر مشكلات في نقل الطاقة إذا لم يكن الكابل معتمداً بشهادة “إم إف آي” (MFI)، والتي يمكن التعرف عليها من خلال الملصق -والتي تعني “صنع لأجل منتجات آبل” (Made for iPhone/iPad/iPod)- على عبوة التغليف.

وفي 13 أكتوبر الماضي أعلنت شركة آبل عن الجيل الأحدث من هواتف (آيفون 12) التي تعد الأولى التي تدعم شبكات الجيل الخامس (5G)، وهي عبارة عن 4 طرازات “آيفون 12 و 12 برو و12 ماكس برو و12 ميني”.

وتعم هواتف آيفون 12 الأربعة الجديدة الشحن اللاسلكي مثلها مثل أي هاتف لآبل منذ آيفون 8، لكن الشركة لم ترفق أي شاحن مع حزمة المنتج الجديد سلكياً أو لاسلكياً بذريعة الحفاظ على البيئة، وطلبت من المستخدمين شراء الشاحن بشكل منفصل.

ووضعت الشركة أمام المستخدمين خياري الشاحن السلكي المعتاد (تطرحه للبيع مقابل 20 دولاراً)، وشاحن لاسلكي جديد يحمل اسم “ماغ سيف” (MagSafe) طرحته للبيع مقابل 39 دولاراً.

ووفق مراجعة جديدة لهواتف آبل 12 أجرتها جوانا سيترن من صحيفة “وول ستريت جورنال” تبين أن شاحن “ماغ سيف” اللاسلكي أبطأ بمرتين من شاحن “يو إس بي-سي” (USB-C) السلكي بقوة 20 واتاً، بحسب الجزيرة نت.
