Qatar Museums Invites Artists to Submit Proposals on Public Art

Doha: Qatar Museums has invited emerging and veteran artists in Qatar to propose works of art before Aug.15, as part of its annual open call for public art.
Director of Public Art at Qatar Museums Eng. Abdulrahman Al Ishaq said in a statement Tuesday that the open invitations organized by Qatar Museums every year aim to support local talents and provide artists living in Qatar with a valuable opportunity to propose works of art for public spaces and their creativity, inviting qualified artists to submit their proposals for works that will contribute to enrich the cultural and artistic scene in Qatar, by sparking reflective conversations through creative means, noting that the deadline for receiving proposals is Monday, Aug. 15, 2022.
He explained that qualified artists in Qatar are invited to submit one or more works to the art department for an opportunity to create their artwork on walls throughout Doha. Wall Art brings artists together to add vitality and artistic meaning to walls in Doha through graffiti and street art. The goal of the program is to revive urban areas, promote artistic intervention in certain areas and create new locations within Doha that people visit. It is also part of Qatar Museums ‘ ongoing commitment to support local talent and promote public art.
He also pointed out that university students and graduates were invited to propose a temporary or permanent public artwork in this year’s public art students competition, in order to encourage students and graduates to think about the message they would like to convey through their artwork. The selected artist will be tasked with designing his proposal with the support of the Public Art department at Qatar Museums, with the deadline for receiving proposals is Monday, Sep. 5, 2022.
In his statement, Al Ishaq highlighted that the invitation of the 5/6 open initiative encourages artists to propose a permanent public artwork that addresses the local community, that they must take into account the relevance of the artwork to the community and the message they wish to convey through their artwork, and they must also take into account the weight, dimensions, materials and budget, noting that successful applicants will receive a commission contract to implement their proposed public artwork.

الدوحة: دعت متاحف قطر الفنانين الناشئين والمخضرمين في قطر لاقتراح أعمال فنية قبل يوم 15 أغسطس الجاري، وذلك في إطار دعوتها السنوية المفتوحة للفن العام.
وذكر المهندس عبدالرحمن آل إسحاق مدير إدارة الفن العام في متاحف قطر، في تصريحات يوم أمس، أن الدعوات المفتوحة التي تنظمها متاحف قطر كل عام ترمي إلى دعم المواهب المحلية، وتزويد الفنانين الذين يعيشون في قطر بفرصة قيمة لاقتراح أعمال فنية للأماكن العامة وإبداعها، متوجها بالدعوة للفنانين المؤهلين إلى تقديم مقترحاتهم لأعمال ستسهم في إثراء المشهد الثقافي والفني في قطر، من خلال إثارة محادثات تأملية عبر وسائل إبداعية، لافتا إلى أن الموعد النهائي لتسلم المقترحات هو يوم الإثنين 15 أغسطس.
وأوضح أن الفنانين المؤهلين في قطر مدعوون للتقدم بعمل واحد أو أكثر لإدارة الفن للحصول على فرصة لإبداع أعمالهم الفنية على الجدران في أنحاء الدوحة، حيث تجمع /جداري آرت/ الفنانين معا لإضافة الحيوية والمعنى الفني إلى الجدران في الدوحة من خلال الجداريات وفن الشارع، والهدف من البرنامج هو إحياء المناطق الحضرية وتعزيز التدخل الفني في مناطق معينة وإنشاء مواقع جديدة داخل الدوحة يزورها الناس، كما أنه جزء من التزام متاحف قطر المستمر بدعم المواهب المحلية وتعزيز الفن العام.
كما لفت إلى أنه تمت دعوة طلاب الجامعات والخريجين إلى اقتراح عمل فني عام مؤقت أو دائم في مسابقة طلاب الفنون العامة لهذا العام، وذلك لتشجيع الطلاب والخريجين على التفكير في الرسالة التي يودون إيصالها من خلال أعمالهم الفنية، حيث سيتم تكليف الفنان الذي يتم اختياره بتصميم اقتراحه بدعم من إدارة الفن العام في متاحف قطر، على أن يكون الموعد النهائي لتسلم المقترحات هو يوم الإثنين 5 سبتمبر المقبل.
وأبرز المهندس عبدالرحمن آل إسحاق، في تصريحاته، أن دعوة مبادرة 5/6 المفتوحة تشجع الفنانين على اقتراح عمل فني عام دائم يخاطب المجتمع المحلي، على أنه يجب عليهم الأخذ في الاعتبار صلة العمل الفني بالمجتمع والرسالة التي يرغبون في إيصالها من خلال أعمالهم الفنية، كما عليهم مراعاة الوزن والأبعاد والمواد والميزانية، مشيرا إلى أن المتقدمين الناجحين سيحصلون على عقد عمولة لتنفيذ أعمالهم الفنية العامة المقترحة.
