Chinese Study Issues Earth System Simulation Model to Study Climate Change

Beijing: A recent study by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences issued the model, CAS-ESM2.0, to study climate change and provide help for disaster prevention and mitigation.
As the country’s first home-grown Earth system model, the model is the core software component of the Earth System Numerical Simulator Facility, one of China’s major national science and technology infrastructure projects, according to the institute.
With 2.7 million lines of simulation program code, it includes complete components of the climate system and eco-environmental system, and eight sub-system models, including atmospheric circulation, ocean circulation, and sea ice.
The model can be used to explore and understand the laws of climate and environmental evolution. It can also be used to study the interaction mechanism of Earth layers, predict future changes of the Earth system, provide a decision-making basis and sci-tech support for disaster prevention and mitigation, as well as help formulate national strategies to cope with future climate change.

بكين: كشفت دراسة جديدة لعلماء من معهد فيزياء الغلاف الجوي التابع للأكاديمية الصينية للعلوم ، عن نموذج محاكاة باسم /CAS-ESM2.0/ لنظام الأرض ، وذلك لدراسة تغير المناخ وتقديم المساعدة للوقاية من الكوارث والتخفيف من حدتها.
ووفقاً للمعهد، يعتبر نموذج / CAS-ESM2.0/ أول نموذج لنظام الأرض مطور محليا في البلاد، ويُعد المكون البرمجي الأساسي لمنشأة المحاكاة العددية لنظام الأرض ، ولدى هذا النموذج حوالي 2.7 مليون خط من شفرة برنامج المحاكاة ، ويشمل مكونات كاملة من نظام المناخ والنظام الإيكولوجي البيئي، وله ثمانية نماذج من النظم الفرعية، بما في ذلك دورة الغلاف الجوي ودورة المحيطات والجليد البحري.
وأشارت الدراسة إلى أنه يمكن استخدام النموذج لاستكشاف وفهم قوانين المناخ والتطور البيئي ، كما يمكن استخدامه أيضا لدراسة آلية التفاعل بين الطبقات الأرضية، والتنبؤ بالتغيرات المستقبلية في نظام الأرض، وتوفير أساس لاتخاذ القرارات ودعم التكنولوجيا العلمية لمنع الكوارث والتخفيف من حدتها، فضلا عن المساعدة في صياغة استراتيجيات وطنية للتكيف مع تغير المناخ في المستقبل.
