Qatari film wins Vienna Film Festival award and an Oscar nomination

The Qatari film “And Then They Burn the Sea” won the main prize in the Fiction and Documentary International Competition at Vienna Shorts Film Festival, one of the academy awards qualifying festivals. The film also qualified for the Austrian Film Award, the British Film Award and the European Film Award.
Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums and the Doha Film Institute, expressed her happiness with this achievement of Qatari cinema, On her official Instagram page, saying:
“Congratulations to the Qatari director Majid Al-Rumaihi, whose documentary short film “And Then They Burn the Sea” won the Grand Prize at the Vienna Short Film Festival, one of the festivals eligible to compete for the Oscars. A wonderful and unprecedented step for Qatari cinema.”

حصلَ الفيلم القطري «ومن ثم يحرقون البحر» على الجائزة الرئيسية في المسابقة الدولية للأفلام الروائية والوثائقية في مهرجان فيينا السينمائي للأفلام القصيرة، وهو أحد المهرجانات المؤهلة لجوائز الأوسكار. كما تأهل الفيلم أيضًا لجائزة الفيلم النمساوي وجائزة الفيلم البريطاني وجائزة الفيلم الأوروبي.
