New Currency in Circulation can be withdrawn from ATMs

Doha: Tweeters on Twitter circulated photos of the country’s new currency after withdrawing it from ATMs, coinciding with the celebrations of the country’s National Day.
On December 13th, the Qatar Central Bank announced the launch of the fifth edition of Qatari banknotes with new designs and technical and security specifications, and this coincided with the celebrations of the State of Qatar on the National Day, which falls on 18/12/2020.
the new denominations include 7 denominations of banknotes, which are 1 QR, 5 QR, 10 QR, 50 QR, 100 QR, 200 QR and 500 Qatari riyals, and the new 200-riyal denomination was introduced for the first time in the history of Qatari currency. The banknotes from the fourth issue will be withdrawn from circulation within a 90-day period starting yesterday.
The bank added in a statement that, pursuant to the provisions of Articles 54 and 55 of the Qatar Central Bank Law and Regulation of Financial Institutions promulgated by Law No. (13) of 2012, it was decided to withdraw banknotes from the fourth edition from circulation within a period of 90 days from the date of the new launch for the fifth edition on 12/18/2020.
The bank also indicated that the banknotes of the fourth edition will become illegal and unqualified currency as of Friday 19/3/2021, with the holder remaining entitled to recover its value from the Central Bank within a period not exceeding 10 years after that date.
The bank mentioned the importance of preserving the national currency and not tampering with it, whether by writing, perforating or otherwise, noting that these acts are criminalized by the provisions of Article (56) of the aforementioned Qatar Central Bank Law.

وكان المصرف قطر المركزي قد أعلن يوم 13 ديسمبر الجاري عن طرحه الإصدار الخامس للأوراق النقدية القطرية بتصاميم ومواصفات فنية وأمنية جديدة ، ويأتي ذلك تزامنا مع احتفالات دولة قطر باليوم الوطني ، الذي يصادف 18/12/2020 .
وطرح الإصدار الجديد يتضمن 7 فئات من الأوراق النقدية هي 1، 5، 10، 50، 100، 200، 500 ريال قطري، كما تم طرح فئة الـ 200 ريال الجديدة للمرة الأولى في تاريخ النقد القطري. وسيتم سحب الأوراق النقدية من الإصدار الرابع من التداول خلال فترة 90 يوماً اعتبارا من يوم أمس.
وأضاف المصرف في بيان له أنه عملا بأحكام المادتين رقمي (54 و 55) من قانون مصرف قطر المركزي وتنظيم المؤسسات المالية الصادر بالقانون رقم (13) لسنة 2012 ، فقد تقرر سحب الأوراق النقدية من الإصدار الرابع من التداول خلال فترة 90 يوما من تاريخ الطرح الجديد للإصدار الخامس في 18/12/2020 .
كما أشار المصرف أنه سوف تصبح الأوراق النقدية من الإصدار الرابع عملة غير قانونية وغير مبرئه للذمة اعتبارا من يوم الجمعة الموافق 19-3-2021 مع بقاء الحق لحاملها في استرداد قيمتها من المصرف المركزي خلال مدة لا تتجاوز 10 سنوات بعد ذلك التاريخ .
وذكر المصرف بأهمية المحافظة على العملة الوطنية وعدم العبث بها سواء بالكتابة أو التثقيب أو غيرها ، علما بأن تلك الأفعال مجرمة بأحكام المادة (56) من قانون مصرف قطر المركزي المشار إليه .
