Katara opens two exhibitions on environment and heritage

Doha: Cultural Village Foundation, Katara opened on Wednesday two exhibitions at Building 18, Hall 1 and 2 that deals with the environment and Qatari heritage. The exhibitions are entitled “Fifty by Seventy” by Plastic Arts Group – Qatar, and “Darawiz” by the artist Aisha Fakhroo.

The opening was graced by Minister of State and Qatar National Library President, H E Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, Katara General Manager, Dr. Prof. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, along with a number of Ambassadors and Heads of Diplomatic Missions.

Dr. Al Sulaiti said: “Art always comes up with new ideas that take the mind out of the ordinary and direct the soul towards another angle and a different feeling, and this is what we touch with every exhibition organised by Katara for Qatari and non-Qatari artists residing or artists outside Qatar.”

He added: “Katara is a cultural institution concerned with all kinds of culture, including arts and literature, and plastic art is a fundamental pillar in building community awareness and advancing its humanity and values. Attention to the issue of the environment and Qatari heritage is a priority of Katara, which we are working on in organising various events.”

The exhibition Fifty by Seventy includes 75 paintings by 27 artists who are members of the Plastic Arts Group – Qatar. The artists are from Qatar, Iraq, Pakistan, Syria, Belarus, Palestine, Egypt, India, and Lebanon.

The artist Abdullah Al Mutawa, the group’s general supervisor and the exhibition supervisor said, “The idea for the exhibition came from the works that were drawn on group trips in different regions of Qatar. We documented these works in paintings measuring 50 by 70.”

He also pointed out that the exhibition is the third exhibition of the group and the first in Katara.

Meanwhile, the Darawiz exhibition included 26 paintings from artist Aisha Fakhro.

She said the Qatari heritage is very rich in all its details. From the last century, it was distinguished by floral and geometric motifs.

Fakhro is also among the Qatari artists who recently showcased their talent at Al Thumama Stadium.

The Fifty by Seven exhibition will continue until June 6 at Building 18, Hall 1, while the Darawiz exhibition will be until June 11, at Building 18, Hall 2. The public can visit the exhibitions from 10am to 10pm.

الدوحة: افتتحت مؤسسة الحي الثقافي كتارا، الأربعاء، معرضين في المبنى 18، القاعة 1 و 2 يتناولان البيئة والتراث القطري. والمعرضان يحملان عنوان “خمسين في سبعين” لمجموعة الفنون التشكيلية – قطر، و “دراويز” للفنانة عائشة فخرو.

وحضر الافتتاح وزير الدولة ورئيس مكتبة قطر الوطنية، حمد بن عبد العزيز الكواري مدير عام كتارا والدكتور خالد بن إبراهيم السليطي وعدد من السفراء ورؤساء البعثات الدبلوماسية.

حيث قال الدكتور السليطي: “يأتي الفن دائماً بأفكار جديدة تخرج العقل عن المألوف وتوجه الروح نحو زاوية أخرى وشعور مختلف، وهذا ما نلمسه مع كل معرض تنظمه كتارا للقطريين وغير القطريين. – فنانون قطريون مقيمون أو فنانون خارج قطر”.

وأضاف: كتارا مؤسسة ثقافية تهتم بجميع أنواع الثقافة، بما في ذلك الفنون والآداب، والفن التشكيلي هو ركن أساسي في بناء الوعي المجتمعي والنهوض بإنسانيته وقيمه. وإن الاهتمام بقضية البيئة والتراث القطري هي من أولويات كتارا التي نعمل عليها في تنظيم الفعاليات المختلفة”.

ويضم معرض “خمسين في سبعين” 75 لوحة لـ 27 فناناً من أعضاء مجموعة الفنون التشكيلية – قطر. والفنانون من قطر والعراق وباكستان وسوريا وبيلاروسيا وفلسطين ومصر والهند ولبنان.

وقال الفنان عبد الله المطوع المشرف العام على المجموعة والمشرف على المعرض: “جاءت فكرة المعرض من الأعمال التي تم رسمها في رحلات جماعية في مختلف مناطق قطر. وثقنا هذه الأعمال في لوحات قياسها 50 × 70”.

وأشار إلى أن المعرض هو المعرض الثالث للمجموعة والأول في كتارا.

في حين يتضمن معرض دراويز 26 لوحة للفنانة عائشة فخرو.

والتي قالت إن التراث القطري غني جداً بكل تفاصيله. حيث يتميز منذ القرن الماضي بزخارف نباتية وهندسية.

فخرو هي أيضاً من بين الفنانين القطريين الذين عرضوا مؤخراً مواهبهم في استاد الثمامة.

وسيستمر معرض “خمسين في سبعين” حتى 6 يونيو في المبنى 18، القاعة 1، بينما يستمر معرض دراويز حتى 11 يونيو، في المبنى 18، القاعة 2. ويمكن للجمهور زيارة المعارض من الساعة 10 صباحاً حتى 10 مساءً.
