Driving slowly in a fast lane is punishable by law؛ penalties include prison time and a fine: Traffic department

Doha: Lieutenant-Colonel Jaber Muhammad Odaiba, Assistant Director of the Traffic Awareness Department, explained: The third lane on the far left of the street is the express lane and it is set for a certain speed, therefore the driver is not supposed to reduce his speed below the specified speed, thus the driver is violating the law if he’s driving slowly in this lane while not giving way to other vehicles.

Lt. Col. Al-Odaiba noted that the penalty stipulated in Article 95 is imprisonment for a period of no less than a week and not exceeding a year, and a fine of no less than three thousand riyals and no more than ten thousand riyals, or one of these two penalties.

“As for the rest of the driving lanes on the road, it is assumed that the car should not move too slowly. Driving too slowly is a clear violation of the traffic law” he added.

الدوحة: أوضح المقدم جابر محمد عضيبة مساعد مدير إدارة التوعية المرورية: أنّ المسار الثالث أقصى اليسار في الشارع هو الخط السريع المحدد بسرعة معينة، ومن المفترض من أيّ قائد مركبة ألا يقلل سرعته عن السرعة المقررة فيه، وأن السائق يخالف القانون في حال السير ببطء في هذا المسار دون أن يفسح المسار لغيره من المركبات.

ونوه المقدم عضيبة أنّ العقوبة المقررة بنص المادة 95 هي الحبس مدة لا تقل عن أسبوع ولا تتجاوز السنة، وغرامة لا تقل عن ثلاثة آلاف ريال ولا تزيد على عشرة آلاف ريال، أو بإحدى هاتين العقوبتين.

وأضاف: أما باقي مسارات القيادة على الطريق فيفترض ألا تسير السيارة فيها ببطء شديد، وأنّ السير بشكل بطيء جداً يعد مخالفة صريحة لقانون المرور.
