Education Ministry Launches Activities of Reading Week

Doha: The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) has launched events to celebrate World Book Day and Arab Library Day (Reading Week), overseen by the Curriculum and Learning Resources Department, under the slogan ‘A nation reads – Qatar reads’.
The events include introductory workshops and lectures on the importance of reading, readings of children’s stories, literary forums, book fairs, puppet theatres, cultural and literary theatrical performances, and reading tours of books, as well as readings from some Arab countries, in addition to outdoor events that are held in parks.
The events of Reading Week are aimed at disseminating the reading culture among members of the school community, providing students with intellectual, analytical and critical skills, highlighting the importance of books and their role in building the culture and development of individuals and societies, preserving the history of societies, keeping pace with the nations of the world in celebrating the World Book Day and disseminating the culture of reading and intellectual property rights.
The celebration comes in conjunction with the World Book Day, where the world’s nations annually celebrate this occasion on April 23, as it was endorsed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at its meeting in Paris in 1995, to be an occasion to encourage reading, motivate authors, and preserve their rights.

الدوحة: أطلقت وزارة التربية والتعليم والتعليم العالي، فعاليات الاحتفال باليوم العالمي للكتاب واليوم العربي للمكتبات “أسبوع القراءة”، والذي تشرف عليه إدارة المناهج الدراسية ومصادر التعلم، تحت شعار (وطنٌ يقرأ قطر تقرأ).
وتتضمن الفعاليات ورشا تعريفية ومحاضرات عن أهمية القراءة، وقراءات لقصص الأطفال، وملتقيات أدبية ومعارض للكتب، ومسارح للعرائس، وعروضا مسرحية ثقافية أدبية، وجولات مطالعة لمؤلفات وقراءات لبعض من الدول العربية، بالإضافة للفعاليات الخارجية التي تقام في بعض الحدائق.
وتهدف فعاليات (أسبوع القراءة) إلى نشر ثقافة القراءة بين أفراد المجتمع المدرسي، وإكساب الطلبة المهارات الفكرية والتحليلية والنقدية، وإبراز أهمية الكتاب ودوره في بناء ثقافة وتطور الفرد والمجتمع، وحفظ تاريخ المجتمعات، ومواكبة دول العالم في الاحتفال باليوم العالمي ونشر ثقافة القراءة وحقوق الملكية الفكرية.
يذكر أن تنظيم الاحتفال يأتي تزامناً مع اليوم العالمي للكتاب، حيث تحتفل دول العالم باليوم العالمي للكتاب في 23 إبريل من كل عام، والذي أقرته منظمة الأمم المتحدة للتربية والعلم والثقافة (اليونسكو) في اجتماعها بباريس عام 1995م ليكون مناسبة للتشجيع على القراءة، وتحفيز المؤلفين، وحفظ حقوقهم.
