QRCS Builds Shelter Homes for Displaced Families in Yemen

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is building 224 housing units in two towns of Abs District, Hajjah Governorate, to shelter 1,680 displaced persons affected by war and flooding in Yemen.

At a total cost of USD 210,024 totally funded by QRCS, the new homes are 53 meters in size and are built of mud blocks and straw roofs taken from the local environment.

This emergency response is part of Qatars continued commitment to relieving Yemenis and alleviating the impact of the prolonged humanitarian crisis.

The project’s manager Eng. Afraa Al-Aghbari, stated, “Abs District is a desert sandy area in northwestern Hajjah, where the displaced people suffer poor living conditions and have difficulty finding adequate housing. Their suffering becomes even worse at times of too hot weather, dust, and rain, which damage their mud-and-straw homes and make them, particularly children, prone to disease”.

الدوحة: أعلن الهلال الأحمر القطري عن شروعه في بناء 224 وحدة سكنية في منطقتي المشطا وبني ثواب التابعتين لمديرية عبس بمحافظة حجة اليمنية، لإيواء 1,680 فردا، وذلك بتكلفة إجمالية قدرها 210,024 دولارا أمريكيا.

ويأتي هذا المشروع لإيواء من تعرضوا للتهجير بسبب الحروب أو السيول والفيضانات، وتأتي هذه الاستجابة العاجلة في ضوء توجه دولة قطر المستمر لإغاثة اليمنيين والتخفيف من معاناتهم نتيجة الوضع الإنساني المتأزم منذ سنين.

وفي هذا الصدد، أوضحت المهندسة عفراء الأغبري مديرة المشروع أن مديرية عبس “ذات طبيعة صحراوية كثيفة الرمال، ويغلب على مساكنها الطابع التهامي، وهي تقع في الشمال الغربي لمحافظة حجة، ويعيش النازحون فيها ظروفا صعبة، وقدرتهم ضعيفة على توفير المأوى. وتزداد معاناتهم خلال موسم الحر الشديد والغبار والأمطار، حيث تتضرر مساكنهم المبنية من الطين والقش فلا يقوون على مواجهة الأمراض وخاصة الأطفال”.
