Akbar Al Baker: My recent remarks were taken out of context, Doha welcomes all nationalities

Doha: Secretary-General of Qatar National Tourism Council and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker said that his remarks last week on not welcoming certain nationalities were taken out of context by the media, explaining that he was speaking with emotion as a passionate Qatari affected by the blockade imposed on the country.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, he said Qatar is a country, which is open to all nationalities including those from the blockading countries.

“We have over 750 Egyptians working at Qatar Airways and some of my senior management is Egyptian,” he said.

He pointed out that the media, which took his comments out of context, ignored in the same context the openness of Qatar to all countries of the world and its readiness to open to the blockading countries, citing what the Qatari leadership had said that if they, the blockading countries, come towards us one meter, we will go 1,000km towards them.

قال سعادة السيد أكبر الباكر، الأمين العام للمجلس الوطني للسياحة في قطر والرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية، إن ما تناقلته وسائل الإعلام الاسبوع الماضي من تصريحات حول عدم الترحيب ببعض الجنسيات اقتطعت من سياقها، موضحا أنه كان يتحدث بشكل عاطفي بصفته مواطنا قطريا متضررا من الحصار المفروض على البلاد.

وأكد سعادته في تصريح صحفي مساء اليوم أن دولة قطر ترحب بجميع الجنسيات بما فيها المواطنون الذين يحملون جنسية دول الحصار والذين يتوافدون على الدوحة.

واردف قائلا: “يعمل لدى القطرية 750 موظفا بعضهم من كبار الموظفين في الناقلة من الجنسية المصرية”.

ولفت الى أن وسائل الإعلام التي اقتطعت التصريحات الماضية تجاهلت أعرابه في نفس السياق عن إنفتاح دولة قطر على جميع دول العالم واستعدادها للانفتاح على دول الحصار التي ان تقدمت بخطوة ستتبعها الدوحة بخطوات حسبما أكدت قيادة البلد في وقت سابق.
