Ashghal Announces Completion of Third Expansion Project of Industrial Area Sewage Treatment Plant

Doha: The Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ has announced the completion of the Third Expansion project in the Industrial Area Sewage Treatment Works, through which the plant’s capacity to treat sewage flows was increased by an additional amount of 30,000 m3/day, bringing the total capacity of the plant to 90,000 m3/day.

The sewage treatment plant is located about 2 km southwest of the industrial area in Doha. It started operating in 2014 with an initial capacity of 12,000 m3/day. Ashghal has implemented the first and second expansions in 2015 and 2017 to bring its capacity up to about 60,000 m3/day.

Head of Treatment Plants and TSE Network Projects Section in the Drainage Networks Projects Department at Ashghal, Eng. Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Sulaiti, said that this project is part of Ashghal’s plan to implement a series of expansions for the sewage treatment plant in the Industrial Area. The expansion aims to keep pace with the remarkable increase in the population and urban growth in the industrial area and its infrastructure.

Eng. Abdulrahman Al Sulaiti has confirmed that the third expansion brought the capacity of the treatment plant up to 90,000 m3/day, and thus the rate of increase in the plant’s capacity since its start until today has reached 650%. He added that Ashghal’s plan includes the implementation of an additional expansion if needed in the future to reach a capacity of 120,000 m3/day.

The Project Manager Drainage Networks Projects Department Eng. Nayif Abdulghani Alkathiri added that the increase in the plant’s capacity is planned to meet the increasing demand for sewage treatment, as it will increase the number of house connections to workers’ accommodations, which will be connected to the sewage network.

The project will also serve the new areas around the Industrial Area with the drainage network, including areas that belong to the Ministry of Energy and Industry, commercial areas and the extended areas to the North and South of the Industrial Area, in addition to other areas that are planned to be provided with services in the future, he added.

He explained that the sewage treatment plant in the Industrial Area uses advanced treatment techniques to produce treated water that conforms to the highest international environmental standards. Sewage water will be treated with disc filters, ultrafiltration system, UV treatment system and other technologies to ensure the production of high quality treated water with minimal human intervention.

The first and second expansions were implemented by the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’ in 2015 and 2017.

الدوحة: أعلنت هيئة الأشغال العامة /أشغال/ عن الانتهاء من تنفيذ مشروع التوسعة الثالثة لمحطة معالجة مياه الصرف الصحي بالمنطقة الصناعية، وهو ما زاد قدرة المحطة على معالجة تدفقات مياه الصرف الصحي بمقدار 30,000 متر مكعب في اليوم، لتصل طاقتها الاستيعابية الإجمالية إلى 90,000 متر مكعب.

وأوضحت /أشغال/ أن محطة معالجة مياه الصرف الصحي تقع على بعد حوالي 2 كيلومتر جنوب غرب المنطقة الصناعية بالدوحة، حيث بدأت عملها عام 2014 بقدرة استيعابية لا تتجاوز الـ12,000 متر مكعب في اليوم.

وقال المهندس عبدالرحمن محمد السليطي رئيس قسم مشاريع محطات المعالجة وشبكات المياه المعالجة في /أشغال/، إن المشروع يعد جزءا من خطة الهيئة لتنفيذ سلسلة من التوسعات لمحطة معالجة مياه الصرف الصحي في المنطقة الصناعية، والتي تهدف إلى مواكبة التوسع الملحوظ والنمو السكاني والعمراني في المنطقة الصناعية والبنية التحتية المرتبطة بها.

وأكد أن التوسعة الثالثة التي تم إنجازها، رفعت القدرة الاستيعابية للمحطة منذ بدء عملها وحتى اليوم بنسبة 650 بالمائة، مشيرا إلى أن الخطة تشمل أيضا تنفيذ توسعة إضافية للمحطة في حال الحاجة مستقبلا للوصول إلى قدرة استيعابية قدرها 120,000 متر مكعب في اليوم.

من جانبه أوضح المهندس نايف عبدالغني الكثيري، مدير المشروع، أن الزيادة في سعة المحطة ستمكن من تلبية الطلب المتزايد على معالجة مياه الصرف الصحي، من حيث القيام بالمزيد من التوصيلات المنزلية لمجمعات العمال بالمنطقة وربطها بشبكة الصرف الصحي.

ولفت إلى أن المشروع سيخدم المناطق الجديدة المجاورة لمنطقة الدوحة الصناعية بشبكات الصرف الصحي، والتي تشمل المناطق التابعة لوزارة الطاقة والصناعة، والمناطق التجارية والمناطق الموسعة شمال وجنوب المنطقة الصناعية، ومناطق أخرى من المخطط تزويدها بالخدمات مستقبلا.

وقال، إن محطة معالجة مياه الصرف الصحي بالمنطقة الصناعية تعتمد على تقنيات معالجة متطورة بهدف إنتاج مياه معالجة مطابقة لأعلى المعايير البيئية العالمية، حيث تتم معالجة مياه الصرف الصحي باستخدام الفلاتر القرصية، ونظام الترشيح الفائق، ونظام المعالجة بالأشعة الفوق البنفسجية، وتقنيات أخرى بما يضمن سلامة المياه المنتجة واستمرار أعمال التنقية بالجودة المطلوبة وبأقل تدخل بشري.

وكانت هيئة الأشغال العامة /أشغال/ قد قامت بتنفيذ التوسعتين الأولى والثانية عامي 2015 و2017.
