Qatar University Advances in International Rankings

Doha: HE President of Qatar University Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham stated that the university has continued its progress in the international rankings of universities during the past two years thanks to the excellence in performance at various levels, and the provision of a distinct environment that stimulates innovation and creativity in teaching, learning, research and science.

His Excellency said in a speech during the induction meeting for new faculty members, which was held Wednesday, that the university has made excellence a goal, a way of life and a way of working. This was one of the reasons for its rise to advanced positions in the world rankings of universities, and in its management of the difficult crises that the world has experienced during the past two years.

He added that the university was able to implement various programs and quickly adapt to the social distancing conditions imposed by the pandemic. This is a result of the advanced infrastructure and academic environment that stimulate creativity, research, teaching and learning, and provide all forms of financial, moral, research and technical support.

Qatar University jumped to rank 208 in the world this year, achieving an increase of 16 places over last year’s edition, when it was in 224th place, according to the QS World Ranking.

In turn, Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Omar Al Ansari said that Qatar University is one of the most important universities in the region and the world, as confirmed by international rankings of higher education institutions, adding that the ranking is not a goal in itself, but rather an affirmation of the efforts made by the university in the fields of teaching, research and infrastructure to be a leader in all fields and achieve its goals, vision and mission of being recognized regionally for its qualitative excellence in education and research.

Dr. Al Ansari pointed out that Qatar University is the national university of higher education in the State of Qatar, which offers high-quality academic programs for undergraduate and graduate education. It prepares competent graduates who can contribute effectively to making the future of their country and nation.

He affirmed that Qatar University includes a distinguished and diverse elite of faculty members who are committed to improving the education process.

He pointed out that the university currently includes 11 colleges and has 1,391 faculty members in the various disciplines offered by the university, and includes 50 scientific programs at the undergraduate level and 46 programs at the postgraduate level.

During the meeting, Dr. Al Ansari spoke about a set of core values of the university such as excellence, quality, professionalism, integrity, transparency and academic freedom, in addition to its interest in diversity, creativity, and social responsibility.

In her speech on the occasion, Vice President for Student Affairs at Qatar University Dr. Eiman Mustafawi said that the university currently has 28,500 students, including 26,000 at the undergraduate level and more than 2,000 students at the postgraduate level, of whom 68 percent are Qataris and the rest are of different nationalities, and this number is 71 percent of females.

She said that colleges, where the College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college at the university level, with 7,500 students, followed by the College of Engineering with 5,000 students, and then the College of Management and Economics.

Dr. Eiman also stated that the Student Affairs Sector employs 390 employees who provide services to students, as well as about 53 departments and specialized sections. These employees provide about 100 services and programs and deal with 88 student organizations Assistant Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies Dr. Nasser bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, spoke about the research sector, pointing out that the research centers of Qatar University, which are 17 centers.

Dr. Al Naimi pointed to the increase in the annual research production and research grants to Qatar University in recent years, in addition to the great leaps in graduate programs, the number of students enrolled, funding sources, and scientific publications in international scientific journals.

He affirmed that the university witnessed an increase and diversification in the number of scientific research centers, units and programs, an increase in the number of patents, and local and global partnerships, as well as its ambitious plans to develop national cadres and to promote and advance research policies.

الدوحة: قال سعادة الدكتور حسن بن راشد الدرهم رئيس جامعة قطر إن الجامعة واصلت تقدمها في التصنيفات العالمية للجامعات خلال العامين الماضيين، بفضل التميز في الأداء على مختلف المستويات، وتوفيرها بيئة متميزة تحفز على الابتكار والإبداع في التعليم والتعلم والبحث والعلمي.

وقال سعادته في كلمة خلال اللقاء الترحيبي بأعضاء هيئة التدريس الجدد، الذي عقد اليوم، إن الجامعة جعلت التميز هدفا لها ومنهج حياة وأسلوب عمل، فكان ذلك أحد أسباب ارتقائها مراكز متقدمة في سلم التصنيف العالمي للجامعات، وفي إدارتها للأزمات الصعبة التي مر بها العالم خلال العامين الماضيين.

وأضاف أن الجامعة تمكنت من تنفيذ البرامج المختلفة والتكيف السريع مع ما فرضته الجائحة من ظروف التباعد الاجتماعي، وذلك نتيجة للبنية التحتية المتطورة والبيئة الأكاديمية المحفزة على الإبداع والبحث والتعليم والتعلم، وتوفير كل أشكال الدعم ماديا ومعنويا وبحثيا وتقنيا.

وقفزت جامعة قطر إلى المرتبة 208 على مستوى العالم، هذا العام، محققة تقدما بـ16 مركزا عن نسخة العام الماضي، حيث كانت في المركز 224، وفقا لتصنيف مؤسسة كيو إس /QS/ العالمية.

بدوره، قال الدكتور عمر الأنصاري نائب رئيس الجامعة للشؤون الأكاديمية إن جامعة قطر تعد واحدة من أهم الجامعات في المنطقة والعالم كما تؤكد ذلك التصنيفات العالمية لمؤسسات التعليم العالي.

وأضاف أن التصنيف ليس هدفا في حد ذاته بل هو تأكيد على الجهود التي تبذلها الجامعة في مجالات التدريس والبحث والبنية التحتية لتكون رائدة في كافة المجالات وتحقق أهدافها ورؤيتها ورسالتها المتمثلة في أن تعرف إقليميا بتميزها النوعي في التعليم والبحث، وبكونها الخيار المفضل لطلبة العلم والباحثين، ومحفزا للتنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية المستدامة لدولة قطر.

وأشار الدكتور الأنصاري إلى أن جامعة قطر هي الجامعة الوطنية للتعليم العالي في دولة قطر التي تقدم برامج أكاديمية ذات جودة عالية للتعليم الجامعي والدراسات العليا، وتقوم بإعداد خريجين أكفاء قادرين على المساهمة بفعالية في صنع مستقبل وطنهم وأمتهم.

وأكد أن جامعة قطر تضم نخبة متميزة ومتنوعة من أعضاء هيئة التدريس الملتزمين بتجويد عملية التعليم وإجراء الدراسات والبحوث ذات الصلة بالتحديات المحلية والإقليمية وتقدم المعرفة، والإسهام الإيجابي في تحقيق احتياجات المجتمع وتطلعاته.

وأشار إلى أن عدد أعضاء هيئة التدريس وصل إلى 1391 عضوا في مختلف التخصصات التي تطرحها الجامعة في 11 كلية تضم نحو 96 برنامجا علميا بواقع 50 برنامجا في مرحلة البكالوريوس و46 برنامجا في مرحلة الدراسات العليا.

وتحدث الدكتور الأنصاري خلال اللقاء عن مجموعة من القيم الأساسية للجامعة مثل التميز والجودة والمهنية، والنزاهة والشفافية والحرية الأكاديمية، إلى جانب اهتمامها بالتنوع والإبداع، والمسؤولية المجتمعية.

من جانبها، قالت الدكتورة إيمان مصطفوي نائب رئيس جامعة قطر لشؤون الطلاب، إن الجامعة تضم حاليا 28500 طالب وطالبة منهم 26 ألفا في مرحلة البكالوريوس وأكثر من 2000 طالب وطالبة في مرحلة الدراسات العليا، 68% منهم قطريون وتتوزع النسبة الباقية على جنسيات مختلفة.. كما أشارت إلى أن 71% من طلبة جامعة قطر من الإناث.

وذكرت أن كلية الآداب والعلوم تعد الكلية الأكبر على مستوى الجامعة إذ تضم حاليا 7500 طالب وطالبة تليها كلية الهندسة بـ5000 طالب وطالبة ثم كلية الإدارة والاقتصاد.

وأفادت بأن قطاع شؤون الطلاب بالجامعة يؤدي دوره بكل حرفية لخدمة طلبة الجامعة.. مشيرة إلى أن عدد العاملين فيه يصل إلى 390 موظفا موزعين على 53 إدارة وقسما يقدمون ما يزيد عن 100 خدمة وبرنامج ويتعاملون مع 88 منظمة طلابية.

وأعلنت الدكتورة إيمان مصطفوي أن المقر الجديد لمبنى شؤون الطلاب سيتم افتتاحه خلال الأسابيع القليلة المقبلة، ويتضمن العديد من المرافق الجامعية المهمة التي تخدم طلبة الجامعة.

كما شهد اللقاء الترحيبي تعريفا بقطاع البحث العلمي، حيث أشار الدكتور ناصر عبدالله النعيمي مساعد نائب رئيس الجامعة للبحث والدراسات العليا إلى أن الجامعة تضم حاليا 17 مركزا بحثيا.

ولفت الدكتور النعيمي إلى ارتفاع الإنتاج البحثي السنوي والمنح البحثية لجامعة قطر في السنوات الأخيرة، إلى جانب القفزات الكبيرة في برامج الدراسات العليا، وعدد الطلاب الملتحقين بها، ومصادر التمويل، والإصدارات العلمية في المجلات العلمية العالمية.

وأكد أن الجامعة شهدت زيادة وتنوعا في عدد مراكز ووحدات وبرامج البحث العلمي، وارتفاعا في عدد براءات الاختراع، والشراكات المحلية والعالمية، فضلا عن خططها الطموحة في تنمية الكوادر الوطنية وتعزيز السياسات البحثية والنهوض بها.
