Qatar Sports Press Committee expresses concern on UAE denying entry to Qatari delegation
بيان من لجنة الإعلام الرياضي القطري بشأن منع الإمارات 5 إعلاميين من تغطية كأس آسيا
Doha: Qatar Sports Press Committee (a member of AIPS, AIPS-Asia and Arab Federation of Sports Press), has followed upon UAE’ ban of the five-member Qatari media delegation from entering the UAE to cover the 2019 Asian Cup on the eve of the tournament, despite having obtained AIPS-Asia approval as well as entry visas to the UAE.
While the Committee deplores such acts that affect the freedom of the media and contradict the statements made by UAE officials in various media, including “welcoming media delegations”, it is deeply concerned about the persistence of the UAE security services to restrict representatives and journalists from Qatari sports media from engagement with any sports events held in UAE, in a clear violation of press freedom.
Given the increasing global calls for the protection of journalists to enable them to perform their professional duties, the Committee calls on all international organizations, institutions and bodies related to human rights in general and sports journalism in particular to stand against the actions of the UAE authorities against the representatives of the Qatari media, and denounce such actions that violate human rights and the freedom of the media.
The Committee also expresses to FIFA and AFC its intense protest at these flagrant violations of the tournament regulations and laws, considered as a serious precedent in the world of sports competitions, and calls upon relevant bodies to open a comprehensive investigation into what has happened and led to the exclusion and return of representatives of the Qatari sports media to Doha.
The Committee will soon provide a detailed report on the shocking human rights violations the Qatari delegation was exposed to at the hands of UAE security authorities
أصدرت لجنة الإعلام الرياضي القطري بياناً بشأن منع الإمارات 5 من وسائل الإعلام القطرية من دخول أراضيها لتغطية فعاليات كأس آسيا 2019 التي تستضيفها والتي تبدأ فعالياتها غداً السبت وتستمر حتى الأول من فبراير المقبل.
وأكدت أن تصرفات الإمارات مع أعضاء الوفد الإعلامي القطري تمس حرية الإعلام وتناقض التصريحات التي يطلقها المسؤولون الإماراتيون في وسائل الإعلام.
وقالت لجنة الإعلام الرياضي القطري إنها تنظر بخطورة بالغة لاستمرار أجهزة الأمن الإماراتية التضييق على الصحفيين ممثلي الإعلام الرياضي القطري مع كل بطولة تستضيفها الإمارات، في انتهاك واضح لحرية الصحافة.
ودعت إلى فتح تحقيق شامل إزاء منع الإمارات 5 من أعضاء الوفد الإعلامي القطري من دخول أراضيها لتغطية كأس آسيا وأدى إلى عودة ممثلي وسائل الإعلام الرياضي القطري إلى الدوحة.
وأعربت عن احتجاجها إزاء المخالفات الصريحة التي ترتكبها الإمارات لأنظمة بطولة كأس آسيا وقوانينها لدى الاتحادين الدولي والآسيوي لكرة القدم.
وطالبت المنظمات والهيئات الدولية ذات الصلة بحقوق الإنسان والصحافة الرياضية بالوقوف تجاه ما أقدمت عليه السلطات الإماراتية بحق ممثلي وسائل الإعلام القطرية من تصرفات تمس حقوق الإنسان وتنتهك حرية الإعلام.
