EAA to Hold Key Talks at Doha’s 5th UN Conference on Least Developed Countries

Doha: The Education Above All Foundation (EAA) will hold a number of panels and a roundtable discussion within its participation in the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) to be held in Doha from March 5-9.

These sessions will tackle a range of education-related issues. EAA’s first session will be opened by UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education Stefania Giannini, with talks continuing throughout the week on topics such as green skills and youth-led climate action. There will also be discussions on the recognition of educational qualifications for refugees and displaced students, as well as innovative financing partnerships. Education ministers from LDCs including Bangladesh, Burkina Faso and Ethiopia will also attend.

On day two of the conference, Protect Education in Insecurity and Conflict (PEIC) with its partner UNESCO will conduct an interactive panel discussion entitled Transforming Education in LDCs – Ensuring a focus on Inclusion and Gender Equality, with participation of Assistant Director-General for Education Stefania Giannini, HE Minister of Education, Bangladesh, Dr Dipu Moni, HE Federal Minister, Federal Education and Professional Training, Pakistan, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Special Advisor on the Transforming Education Summit Leonardo Garnier, UN Human Rights Youth Advisory Board member Areej Masri.

On March 7, EAA and the Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) will hold a ministerial roundtable entitled: “Out of School Children: Linking across Sectors for Success”, with the participation of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Education of Bangladesh, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Ethiopia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Palestine and Senegal, and at the end of the session, the ministers of the concerned countries will sign memorandums of understanding with the Education Above All Foundation’s strategic partner, Qatar Fund for Development, on the Foundation’s existing projects in the aforementioned countries.

On March 7, Educate A Child (EAC), the QFFD, the Islamic Development Bank, Stromme Foundation and the Ministry of Education of Burkina Faso will hold a panel discussion entitled: Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships – Addressing the Burkina Faso Education Crisis in relation to educational provision in challenging environments.
On March 8, Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) will hold a discussion panel about “Unleashing the Power of Youth – Supporting youth-led climate action in LDCs”, with the participation of the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of South Sudan, and the Cambodian Minister of Education, Youth and Sports. This event will focus on reflecting ROTA’s positioning as a key player in the areas of climate change education and education for climate action.

On March 9, EAA’s fourth session will be opened by UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education Stefania Giannini. This panel, “Advancing Access to Higher Education Opportunities for the Most Marginalized,” in partnership with UNESCO, will focus on the UNESCO Qualification Passport (UQP), and how it facilitates inclusivity in higher education for marginalized and refugee youth, particularly those displaced by conflict, climate change or natural disasters.

Leena Al Derham, from the Education Above All Foundation, said: “We are glad to be part of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries. We are here because we want to work with our partners in the international community, to make sure that education is on top of the agenda this week. Education is the key to economic and social, development.

A conference like the LDC gives us the opportunity to share knowledge, explore new ways how education can equip the next generation to better deal with today’s challenges, and help us to work towards a better, healthier and safer future, especially for communities in LDC countries that are affected by poverty, conflict and disaster.”

The theme for this year’s event is “From Potential to Prosperity” and it will take place at Qatar’s National Convention Centre (QNCC) in Doha. EAA’s panels will contribute to supporting key LDC outcomes, as per the as Doha Programme of Action. These include a focus on increased enrolment, gender equality and equal access to all levels of education, as well as utilising digital tools and technologies to improve education outcomes.

تتناول هذه الفعاليات وفق بيان صادر عن المؤسسة مجموعة من القضايا المتعلقة بالتعليم، حيث سيتم افتتاح الجلسة الأولى من قبل السيدة ستيفانيا جيانيني مساعدة المديرة العامة للتربية في اليونسكو، مع استمرار المشاورات على مدار الأسبوع حول موضوعات مثل المهارات الخضراء والعمل المناخي بقيادة الشباب، كما سيعقد أيضا جلسات نقاشية حول الاعتراف بالمؤهلات التعليمية للطلاب اللاجئين والنازحين، فضلا عن شراكات التمويل المبتكرة، بحضور وزراء التعليم من أقل البلدان نموا بما في ذلك بنغلاديش وبوركينا فاسو وإثيوبيا.

وفي اليوم الثاني للمؤتمر (6 مارس)، يجري برنامج “حماية التعليم في ظروف انعدام الأمن والنزاعات المسلحة” بالتعاون مع اليونسكو، حلقة نقاشية تفاعلية بعنوان “تحويل التعليم في أقل البلدان نموا – ضمان التركيز على الإدماج والمساواة بين الجنسين”، بمشاركة مساعدة المديرة العامة للتربية في اليونسكو، وسعادة الدكتورة ديبو موني وزير التربية والتعليم ببنغلاديش، وسعادة السيد رانا تنوير حسين وزير التعليم الباكستاني، والسيد ليوناردو غارنييه المستشار الخاص للأمين العام للأمم المتحدة لقمة تحويل التعليم، والسيدة أريج المصري عضو المجلس الاستشاري للشباب في الأمم المتحدة لحقوق الإنسان.

وفي 7 مارس، تعقد مؤسسة التعليم فوق الجميع وصندوق قطر للتنمية اجتماع مائدة مستديرة وزارية بعنوان “الأطفال غير الملتحقين بالمدارس: الربط عبر القطاعات من أجل النجاح”، بمشاركة وزراء الخارجية والتعليم لكل من بنغلاديش، وبوركينا فاسو، وليبيريا، وإثيوبيا، والنيبال، ونيجيريا، وباكستان، وفلسطين والسنغال، وفي نهاية الجلسة سيقوم وزراء الدول المعنية بتوقيع مذكرات تفاهم على مشاريع المؤسسة القائمة في الدول المذكورة.

كما سيعقد برنامج علم طفلا وصندوق قطر للتنمية والبنك الإسلامي للتنمية ومؤسسة ستروم ووزارة التربية والتعليم في بوركينا فاسو، حلقة نقاش بعنوان “الشراكات بين أصحاب المصلحة المتعددين – معالجة أزمة التعليم في بوركينا فاسو فيما يتعلق بتوفير التعليم في البيئات الصعبة”.

وفي 8 مارس، يعقد برنامج أيادي الخير نحو آسيا (روتا) حلقة نقاش حول “إطلاق العنان لقوة الشباب – دعم العمل المناخي الذي يقوده الشباب في أقل البلدان نموا”، بمشاركة وزير الشباب والرياضة لجمهورية جنوب السودان، ووزير التربية والتعليم والشباب والرياضة في كمبوديا، وسيركز هذا الحدث على إبراز مكانة برنامج (روتا) كلاعب رئيسي في مجالات التعليم في مجال التغير المناخي والتثقيف في مجال العمل المناخي.

وفي 9 مارس، ستفتتح السيدة ستيفانيا جيانيني مساعدة المديرة العامة للتربية في اليونسكو، الجلسة الرابعة لمؤسسة التعليم فوق الجميع، وستركز هذه الجلسة على “تعزيز الوصول إلى فرص التعليم العالي للأشخاص الأكثر تهميشا”، بالشراكة مع منظمة اليونسكو، وإصدار جواز سفر للاجئين والمهاجرين، وكيف يسهل الشمولية في التعليم العالي للشباب المهمشين واللاجئين، ولا سيما أولئك الذين نزحوا بسبب الصراع أو تغير المناخ أو الكوارث الطبيعية.

وفي هذا الصدد، أعربت السيدة لينا الدرهم، من مؤسسة التعليم فوق الجميع، عن سعادتها بأن تكون المؤسسة جزءا من مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة الخامس المعني بأقل البلدان نموا، وتعزيز العمل مع الشركاء في المجتمع الدولي، من أجل التأكيد من أن التعليم على رأس جدول الأعمال هذا الأسبوع، فالتعليم هو مفتاح التنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية.

وأضافت أن المؤتمرات الدولية مثل مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة الخامس المعني بأقل البلدان نموا تمنح الفرصة لتبادل المعرفة واستكشاف طرق جديدة لكيفية تجهيز الجيل القادم للتعامل بشكل أفضل مع التحديات الحالية، والمساعدة على العمل من أجل مستقبل أفضل وأكثر صحة وسلامة، لا سيما للمجتمعات في أقل البلدان نموا المتأثرة بالفقر والصراع والكوارث.

ويعقد مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة الخامس المعني بأقل البلدان نموا على مدى خمسة أيام في الفترة من 5 إلى 9 مارس المقبل تحت شعار “من الإمكانات إلى الازدهار”، بمركز قطر الوطني للمؤتمرات، لطرح أفكار جديدة، والحصول على تعهدات بالدعم، وتحفيز الوفاء بالالتزامات المتفق عليها من خلال برنامج عمل الدوحة.

وتساهم حلقات نقاش مؤسسة التعليم فوق الجميع في دعم النتائج الرئيسية لأقل البلدان نموا، وفقا لبرنامج عمل الدوحة، ويشمل ذلك التركيز على زيادة الالتحاق بالمدارس والمساواة بين الجنسين والمساواة في الوصول إلى جميع مستويات التعليم، فضلا عن استخدام الأدوات والتقنيات الرقمية لتحسين نتائج التعليم.
