Crisis in Barcelona due to Messi’s departure clause

The Barcelona forward, widely considered at the greatest player of all time, was given the option in his deal to decide his own future after his 32nd birthday.

The unusual clause was also given to Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Carles Puyol in recent years, and gives the player freedom to walk away from the Camp Nou.

“Leo is intelligent, he knows how to measure things.

“If he feels good, he will tell us.

“When he decides, we will renew his deal.

“Messi is the best player in history.”

After last year’s Champions League drubbing at the hands of Liverpool at Anfield, Messi was quick to pledge his future to the club.

He said: “I want to keep competing at Barca and I have never thought about leaving the club.

“Nothing makes me think about not competing here.”

After the international break Barcelona host Valencia in La Liga, before a trip to Germany to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.
