Ashghal Announces Completion of Development Works of Al Wadi Park Natural Reserve

Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced the completion of the implementation and development works on Al Wadi Park Natural Reserve in Al Wajba East, in cooperation with the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar.
On this occasion, Roads Projects Department Manager at Ashghal Eng. Saoud Ali Al Tamimi stressed the importance of developing Al Wadi Park Natural Reserve and its key role in maintaining the environmental balance and protecting the wildlife and plants. He added that the project is part of Ashghals constant efforts to expand green spaces in Qatar and provide a healthy outlet for families and individuals.
For his part, Eng. Muhammad Arqoub Al Khaldi, Chairman of the Supervisory Committee for the Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, stated that the committee attaches great importance to wildlife and natural habitats, through preserving, developing and protecting the wildlife from extinction. These efforts aim to provide a better future for the coming generations, and to preserve local plant species and using them sustainably.
Eng. Mohammed Al Khaldi added that an area of 102,000 m2 of trees of local species were planted in Al Wadi Park Natural reserve, such as Lycium Barbarum, Ziziphus Spina-Christi (wild sidr), Acacia Tortilis, Boswellia Sacra, Acacia Ampliceps, Albizia Lebbeck (Ficus), Jerusalem Thorn and other trees that fit the natural environment of Qatar to enhance the identity of the reserve.
Rashid Mubarak Al Mansoori, Director of Services Affairs at Al Rayyan Municipality, said that Al Wadi Park Natural Reserve project was implemented in a way that simulates the natural wild system, with paths for walking, cycling and benches to enjoy the beautiful landscape.
Talib Khalid Al Shahwani, Director of the Department of Protection and Wildlife at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change said that the natural reserve will benefit the citizens, the state and the land itself by contributing to combating desertification and climate change and providing a natural recreational space for the area residents. It also provides an opportunity for future generations to learn about Qatari wild plants with their different names and forms, and encourage them to preserve and enhance this heritage.
Eng. Fahad Al Otaibi, Head of Western Areas Projects at Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department, stated that the main works that were implemented included enhancing green areas by planting 836 trees, while providing lines for the irrigation network. This is in addition to constructing a 1.5 km metal fence around the reserve and three gates to the North, South and East of the reserve to facilitate access to it.

الدوحة: أعلنت هيئة الأشغال العامة /أشغال/ عن الانتهاء من تنفيذ أعمال تطوير وتهيئة محمية الوادي بمنطقة شرق الوجبة بالتعاون مع لجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة.
وقال المهندس سعود علي التميمي مدير إدارة مشروعات الطرق في هيئة الأشغال العامة، إن مشروع تطوير وتهيئة محمية الوادي له دور أساسي في حفظ التوازن البيئي والاعتناء بالحياة الفطرية والنباتية وحمايتها، وهو جزء من الجهود التي تبذلها الهيئة في سبيل توسيع الرقعة الخضراء في البلاد وتوفير متنفس صحي للعائلات والأفراد.
من جهته، قال المهندس محمد عرقوب الخالدي رئيس لجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة إن اللجنة تولي الحياة الفطرية ومواطنها الطبيعية أهمية بالغة، وذلك بالمحافظة عليها وإنمائها وحمايتها من الانقراض من أجل مستقبل أفضل للأجيال القادمة، وبهدف الحفاظ على الأنواع النباتية المحلية واستخدامها على نحو مستدام.
وأضاف المهندس أن جميع الأشجار التي تمت زراعتها في المحمية، البالغة مساحتها 102.000 متر مربع، من الأشجار المحلية مثل العوسج والسدر البري والسمر واللبان والطلح الملحي واللبخ وشوكة القدس، وغيرها من الأشجار التي تناسب طبيعة البيئة القطرية لتعزيز هوية المحمية.
وبدوره، قال السيد راشد مبارك المنصوري مدير إدارة شؤون الخدمات في بلدية الريان إن مشروع محمية الوادي تم تنفيذه بشكل يحاكي النظام البري الطبيعي مع تزويده بمسارات لممارسة رياضة المشي والدراجات الهوائية ومقاعد للاستمتاع بالمنظر الطبيعي الجميل.
ومن جانبه، قال السيد طالب خالد الشهواني مدير إدارة الحماية والحياة الفطرية في وزارة البيئة والتغير المناخي إن المحمية ستساهم في مكافحة التصحر والتغيرات المناخية وتوفير مساحة ترفيه طبيعية لأهالي المنطقة.
وأشار إلى أن المحمية تعد فرصة للأجيال القادمة للتعرف على النباتات البرية القطرية بأسمائها وأشكالها المختلفة، وتشجيعهم على الحفاظ على هذا الموروث وتعزيزه.
من ناحيته، قال المهندس فهد محمد العتيبي رئيس قسم المناطق الغربية في إدارة مشروعات الطرق في هيئة الأشغال العامة إن الأعمال الرئيسية التي تم تنفيذها في المحمية تضمنت تعزيز الحياة النباتية من خلال زراعة 836 شجرة مع إنشاء خطوط لشبكة الري، بالإضافة إلى تشييد سياج معدني بطول 1.5 كيلومتر حول المحمية وتوفير 3 بوابات شمال وجنوب وشرق المحمية لتوفير مداخل لها وتسهيل الوصول إليها.
