Citizens suggest applying community service penalties to reckless driving and drifting

Doha: A number of citizens suggested the implementation of community service penalties for those caught recklessly driving, after the General Directorate of Traffic at the Ministry of Interior seized yesterday a motorist after engaging in drifting and maneuvering in the Lusail area.
Observers stressed that community service penalties may be more severe than imposing financial fines or confiscating the vehicle, stressing that the community service penalty obliges its owner to carry out specific tasks such as cleaning the streets, removing waste, or volunteering in any public task, and other various penalties determined by the competent authorities.
“Community service is a fit punishment, it teaches manners, decency and awareness, it is a social lesson and promotes civilized behavior that must be consolidated,” said one citizen, while another said that “let him clean the street where he was showing off, let him wear the cleaners’ uniform, and work like them, under the item of community services, let him clean the same street in which he was flaunting for a month. This is better than fining him financially and impounding his car.”

الدوحة: اقترح عدد من المواطنين تنفيذ عقوبات الخدمة المجتمعية على من يتم ضبطهم من المتهورين في قيادة السيارات، وذلك بعد ضبط الإدارة العامة للمرور بوزارة الداخلية يوم أمس أحد قائدي المركبات بعد قيامه بالتحفيص والتلاعب في منطقة لوسيل.
وأكد المتابعون أن عقوبات الخدمة المجتمعة قد تكون أشد قسوة من فرض الغرامات المالية أو مصادرة المركبة، مشددين على أن عقوبة الخدمة المجتمعية تلزم صاحبها بتنفيذ مهمات محددة كتنظيف الشوارع أو إزالة المخلفات أو التطوع في أي مهمة عامة، وغيرها من العقوبات المختلفة التي تحددها الجهات المختصة.
وقال أحد المواطنين “الخدمة الاجتماعية عقاب وأدب وتربية وتوعية وعبرة ودرس اجتماعي وسلوك حضاري يجب ترسيخه”، فيما قال آخر “خلوه ينظف الشارع الذي كان فيه ويرتدي ملابس عمال النظافة، ويعمل مثلهم، تحت بند خدمات عامة ينظف في نفس الشارع اللي استعرض فيه لمده شهر، هذا أفضل من أن تعطيه مخالفة مالية و حجز سيارة”.
