QF Inspire Youth to Partake in 2022 World Cup Community Activities

Doha: Young inventors have been given the chance to innovate and create in a dynamic setting brought to Qatar through a collaboration between Qatar Foundation and the Smithsonian Institution’s Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and Innovation – and it will be returning when the nation hosts the biggest football tournament in the world.

Spark!Lab is an experiential learning and activity space – developed by the Smithsonian’s Lemelson Center – that provides children and young people with opportunities to invent, design, collaborate, and find solutions to real-world problems, equipping them with STEM skills that can ultimately help them build careers in creative industries.

Together with ConocoPhillips Qatar, QF and the Lemelson Center created a pop-up Spark!Lab at Education City during the FIFA Arab Cup 2021, where young participants worked together on innovations themed around accessibility and sport.

Spark!Lab will be back at QF at the end of the year, before and during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, after which the partnership seeks to build a permanent Spark!Lab within Education City Stadium post-tournament. The partnership will also make invention education learning materials globally available in the Arabic language.

QF’s collaboration with the Smithsonian Institution – the US’ leading education, cultural, and research institution – was formed in 2020 at the third U.S.-Qatar Strategic Dialogue in Washington D.C., and focuses on education, science, and conservation and heritage preservation.

Bringing Spark!Lab to Qatar this year reflected transatlantic ties that have been reinforced during the Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture, and as the international cultural exchange program led by Qatar Museums was marked in Washington D.C. this month, students from QF were given a tour of the Smithsonian Institution and the Lemelson Center, including the Spark!Lab which is based at its home in the US capital.

ويعتبر/سبارك!لاب/ مساحة للتعلم التجريبي والأنشطة التعليمية، تم تطويرها بواسطة مركز /ليملسون/، وتهدف إلى تزويد الأطفال والشباب بفرص الابتكار والتصميم والتعاون لإيجاد الحلول ذات الصلة بتحديات العالم الحقيقي، وإكسابهم مهارات في العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات، ما يساعدهم على بناء مستقبلهم المهني في المجالات الإبداعية.

وكانت مؤسسة قطر قد أنشأت بالتعاون مع /كونوكو فيليبس-قطر/ ومركز /ليملسون/ جناحا مخصصا لفعاليات /سبارك!لاب/ في المدينة التعليمية خلال بطولة كأس العرب FIFA قطر 2021، التي اختتمت فعالياتها في شهر ديسمبر الماضي، حيث شهدت مشاركة الشباب لتنفيذ ابتكارات تتعلق بإمكانية الوصول الميسر والرياضة.

وبهذه المناسبة، أكدت السيدة مشاعل حسن النعيمي رئيس تنمية المجتمع بمؤسسة قطر، أنه من خلال الشراكة الإستراتيجية طويلة الأمد مع معهد /سميثسونيان/، ودعم /كونوكو فيليبس-قطر/، أصبح لفعاليات /سبارك!لاب/ مقر في المدينة التعليمية، ما يعكس التزام مؤسسة قطر بتزويد الشباب بالفرص الجديدة والمميزة للاستكشاف والنمو والتعلم مدى الحياة.

وعبرت النعيمي عن إيمانها الراسخ بضرورة إتاحة إمكانية الوصول الميسر، والشمولية، وقوة الرياضة في بناء مجتمعات قوية وصحية ونابضة بالحياة، وإعجابها الشديد برؤية الأطفال والشباب وهم يقدمون حلولا مذهلة ومبتكرة لتحديات واقعية تحاكي هذه الجوانب في /سبارك!لاب/.

وقالت: “إن ما شهدناه من تبني شبابنا لفرص التعلم والابتكار التي يقدمها /سبارك!لاب/ يزيد من حماسنا لما يحمله لنا عام 2022، والفرص التي سيوفرها للشباب بعد اختتام بطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، كما ستوفر هذه الشراكة مواد تعليمية باللغة العربية عن الابتكار والاختراع، ونتطلع إلى المضي قدما في تعاوننا مع مؤسسة /سميثسونيان/ لنفتح مسارات جديدة للشباب لتحقيق كامل إمكاناتهم”.

من جهته، قال السيد آرثر ديمريتش مدير مركز ليملسون لدراسة الاختراع والابتكار: “لقد كان ملهما أن نرى الشباب في قطر يتبنون الابتكارات الإبداعية.. إن استعدادهم لمواجهة التحديات التي تستخدم مواد مألوفة ومبتكرة وإنشاء نماذج أولية مادية عبر الاستفادة من مهارات القرن الحادي والعشرين، والمجازفة والمثابرة وإيجاد الحلول للتحديات بطرق مبتكرة، يبشر بمستقبل أفضل بالنسبة لقطر والعالم بأسره”.

وأعرب ديمريتش عن امتنانه لوجود المتعاونين المشاركين من مؤسسة قطر و/كونوكو فيليبس-قطر/، مما أسهم في تنفيذ أفضل نسخة من /سبارك!لاب/ دوليا حتى الآن، لافتا إلى أن مواصلة تطوير أنشطة جديدة تتعلق بالابتكارات في قطر ويستفيد منها العالم في الوقت نفسه، خطوة قادمة مهمة.

من ناحيته، أوضح السيد تود كريجر رئيس شركة كونوكو فيليبس-قطر، أن المستقبل يعتمد على الجيل القادم من المخترعين لأن المجتمعات والصناعات تحتاج إلى أفكارهم النيرة من أجل إيجاد حلول للتحديات وتعزيز الاقتصاديات، منوها إلى أن /سبارك!لاب/ يؤدي دورا لا يقدر بثمن لإلهام الأطفال ليصبحوا قادة في مجالات العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات، ويشجعهم على تعزيز شغفهم الدائم بالعلوم والهندسة.

الجدير بالذكر أن تعاون مؤسسة قطر مع معهد /سميثسونيان/، المؤسسة التعليمية والثقافية والبحثية المرموقة في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، بدأ عام 2020 في إطار الحوار الاستراتيجي الثالث بين دولة قطر والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، والذي يركز على التعليم، والعلوم والحفاظ على التراث.

وقد عكست مبادرة /سبارك!لاب/ في قطر العام الماضي العلاقات الوطيدة بين البلدين في إطار فعاليات العام الثقافي قطر الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية، إلى جانب الاحتفال ببرنامج التبادل الثقافي الدولي الذي تقوده متاحف قطر في العاصمة الأمريكية واشنطن هذا الشهر، والذي شمل زيارة طلاب مؤسسة قطر إلى معهد /سميثسونيان/ ومركز /ليملسون/، بما في ذلك /سبارك!لاب/ الذي يقع مقره الرئيسي في العاصمة الأمريكية.
