HMC Shed the Light on Importance of Precision Medicine in Oncology

Doha: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) held its first Virtual Precision Medicine Conference that took place from Nov. 5 to 6, 2021. A collaboration between HMC’s Office of the Chief Medical Officer and the National Center for Cancer Care and Research, the educational event theme focused on “Precision Medicine in Oncology”.
The conference was organized by the office of Chief Medical Officer and Dr. Salha Bujassoum Al-Bader, Senior Consultant and Chairperson of Medical Oncology at HMC, Assistant Chair of HMC – Precision Medicine and a member of the Clinical Council for Precision Medicine in Qatar; under the leadership of Dr. Abdulla Al Ansari, Chief Medical Officer at HMC and Chair of HMC – Precision Medicine and Chair of the Clinical Council for Precision Medicine in Qatar.
Dr. Al-Ansari said that precision medicine has the potential to transform healthcare: “I am proud to share that at present Qatar is a leader of precision medicine in this region and the work that is progressing here can be utilized in all Arab countries and around the globe.”
“Oncology has been at the forefront precision medicine advances, which has led our decision to focus our first precision medicine conference on this important topic. This conference aimed to share international best practice knowledge on using precision cancer medicine to improve the accuracy of diagnosis of cancer and other diseases.”
Dr. Al-Ansari added that the precision medicine conference will be annual event to enhance best practice of precision medicine among clinicians. He mentioned “applying precision medicine to clinical practice requires a deep understanding of genomic and environmental data. Therefore, developing relevant expertise in the clinical workforce will be key to the clinical implementation of Precision Medicine. The first step in this regard is to create awareness in the clinical workforce through educational events”.
For her part, Dr. Salha mentioned, “In cancer, precision medicine uses specific information about a person’s tumor to help make a diagnosis, plan their treatment, ensure ongoing monitoring of how well the treatment is working, and to make a prognosis of likely treatment outcomes. It is therefore a multidisciplinary approach which is based on collaborative working between different clinical and administrative support teams to ensure better recovery outcomes,” added Dr. Al-Bader.
The two-day virtual conference was a milestone in the emerging and innovative field of precision medicine in Qatar, which has a goal to promote awareness of precision medicine for prevention and early intervention by identifying at-risk individuals and designing healthcare delivery around their needs.

الدوحة: نظمت مؤسسة حمد الطبية مؤتمرها الافتراضي الأول للطب الدقيق بالتعاون بين مكتب رئيس الإدارة الطبية بالمؤسسة والمركز الوطني لعلاج وأبحاث السرطان حيث تم التركيز على موضوع “الطب الدقيق في علم الأورام”.
وقال الدكتور عبدالله الأنصاري رئيس الإدارة الطبية ورئيس قسم الطب الدقيق بمؤسسة حمد الطبية ورئيس المجلس الإكلينيكي للطب الدقيق إن دولة قطر أصبحت في الوقت الحاضر رائدة في مجال الطب الدقيق في المنطقة، حيث إن العمل الجاري على هذا الصعيد يمكن الاستفادة منه في جميع البلدان العربية وحول العالم كذلك.
وأشار إلى أن علم الأورام يعتبر في طليعة التطورات في مجال الطب الدقيق، لذلك ركز المؤتمر الأول للطب الدقيق على هذا الموضوع المهم بهدف مشاركة أفضل الممارسات الدولية حول استخدام الطب الدقيق في الأمراض السرطانية لتحسين دقة تشخيص السرطان والأمراض الأخرى.
وأوضح أن المؤتمر سيتم تنظيمه بشكل سنوي لتعزيز أفضل ممارسات الطب الدقيق بين الأطباء حيث يتطلب ذلك فهما عميقا للبيانات الجينومية والبيئية لذلك فإن تطوير الخبرة المرتبطة بالقوى العاملة في المجال الإكلينيكي ستكون هي مفتاح التنفيذ الإكلينيكي للطب الدقيق، وتتمثل الخطوة الأولى لتحقيق ذلك في خلق الوعي لدى القوى العاملة من خلال إقامة الفعاليات التعليمية.
من جهتها، قالت الدكتورة صالحة بوجسوم البدر استشاري أول ورئيس طب الأورام ومساعد رئيس قسم الطب الدقيق بمؤسسة حمد الطبية وعضو المجلس الإكلينيكي للطب الدقيق إن الطب الدقيق يستخدم معلومات محددة في مرض السرطان عن الورم المصاب به الشخص للمساعدة في التشخيص والتخطيط للعلاج، وضمان المراقبة المستمرة لرؤية مدى نجاح العلاج والتنبؤ بنتائجه المحتملة، لذلك يعتبر هذا المجال نهجا متعدد التخصصات يعتمد على العمل التعاوني بين مختلف فرق الدعم الإكلينيكي والإداري لضمان تحقيق نتائج أفضل للشفاء.
وقد مثل المؤتمر الافتراضي الذي استمر لمدة يومين علامة فارقة في مجال الطب الدقيق الناشئ والمبتكر في دولة قطر، حيث سعى إلى تعزيز الوعي بالطب الدقيق للوقاية من الأمراض والتدخل المبكر لعلاجها من خلال تحديد الأفراد الأكثر عرضة لخطر الإصابة بهذه الأمراض وتصميم رعاية صحية مناسبة وفقا لاحتياجاتهم.
يشار إلى أنه تم إنشاء لجنة الطب الدقيق بمؤسسة حمد الطبية مؤخرا وتضم عدة تخصصات رئيسية منها علم الأورام، والصيدلة، وعلم الوراثيات الطبية، والمختبرات، والأشعة، بينما أصبحت مؤسسة حمد في الفترة الأخيرة عضوا تنظيميا في منظمتين دوليتين في هذا المجال وهما تحالف الطب الدقيق في الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وشركة “جينومكس-إنجلترا” في المملكة المتحدة، كما تشارك في قيادة المجلس الطبي الوطني للطب الدقيق .
