Record-breaker Fares tops Doha field

Doha: Qatar’s Fares Ibrahim Hassouna along with Chinese Tapei’s Kuo Hsing Chun emerged as the top weightlifters in the men’s and women’s classes respectively at the International Qatar Cup here yesterday.

At the InterContinental Doha, the 20-year-old Fares, who won silver at the 2018 Asian Games, finished with a tally of 856 points leaving Rejepov Rejepbay of Turkmenistan, who had a scorecard of 833 points in the second spot while Yokubov Doston of Uzbekistan came third with 822 points.

In the women’s section. Kuo tallied 945 points followed the Chinese duo of Luo Xiaimin and Zhang Yujuan, who finished with identical scores of 829 points.

In the team’s event, Kazakhstan topped followed by Uzbekistan, Bulgaria, Iran and Japan in the men’s section while in the women’s section China came first followed by Romania, USA, Chinese Taipei, and Japan.

As many as 130 weightlifters from 35 countries (61 women and 56 men) took part in the event. The competition has attracted some of the big names of the sport as the three-day event is serving as qualifying for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

On Friday, Fares came up with a sensational show in the Men’s 96kg Snatch and Clean & Jerk category to clinch three golds and on the way broke two junior world records.

He set new personal marks in all the three sections: snatch, clean & jerk, and the total. He bettered his snatch lift from 171 to 172kgs; clean and jerk from 220kgs to 225kgs; and total lift from his previous best of 388kgs to a whopping 397kgs.

China’s Tian Fuxuan with lifts of 170 (snatch), 212 (clean & jerk) and total 382 was second, while Tsikhantshou Yauheni of Belarus with lifts of 170 (snatch), 211 (clean & jerk) and total 381 finished third.

Fares had a jittery start to his campaign as he failed with his attempts at 168kgs and 171kgs in snatch, but returned to top with his third attempt of 172kgs.

In clean and jerk, he was however superbly confident and made no mistakes going on achieve his personal bests.

Meanwhile, Fares said he is delighted with his performance at the home event and has set his sights on winning a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Fares said what has been achieved on Friday is the result of work and great efforts over a period of time, noting that he has worked very hard ahead of the event to reach the level of excellence.

He praised the role played by the Olympic Committee under the chairmanship of HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani and the Qatar Weightlifting and Fencing Federation headed by Mohammed Yousef Al Mana for the continued support.

توج القطري فارس حسونة وبطلة الصين تايبيه “تشون كو شينج” بلقبي أفضل رباع ورباعة في ختام منافسات النسخة الخامسة من بطولة كأس قطر الدولية لرفع الأثقال والمؤهلة إلى دورة الألعاب الأولمبية “طوكيو 2020” التي نظمها الاتحاد القطري لرفع الأثقال على مدار ثلاثة أيام بفندق “انتركونتننتال الدوحة” وبمشاركة 56 رباعا و61 رباعة يمثلون 33 دولة.

وجاء تتويج القطري حسونة باللقب بعد تفوقه في وزن 96 كج وحصده الميداليات الثلاث الذهبية في الخطف بوزن 172 كج والنتر بوزن 225 كج، والمجموع بإجمالي 397 كج، فضلا عن تحقيقه رقمين قياسيين عالميين جديدين .

أما تشون بطلة الصين تايبيه فقد تألقت في وزن 59 كج واحتكرت الميداليات الثلاث الذهبية في الخطف بوزن 103 كج، والنتر بوزن 130 كج، والمجموع بإجمالي 233 كج.

ونال منتخب كازاخستان (7 رباعين) صدارة الترتيب العام للرجال برصيد 397 نقطة، متفوقا على كل من أوزبكستان (5 رباعين) صاحب المركز الثاني برصيد 357 نقطة ، وبيلاروسيا (4 رباعين) التي حلت ثالثة برصيد 300 نقطة، فيما حلت إيران (4 رباعين) في المركز الرابع برصيد 250 نقطة ، واليابان (3 رباعين) في المركز الخامس برصيد 210 نقاط، علما بان فارس حسونة ممثل قطر الوحيد حصل على العلامة الكاملة 84 نقطة ولكن قطر جاءت في المركز الثالث عشر برصيد 84 نقطة.

وعلى صعيد ترتيب السيدات، احتل منتخب الصين (6 رباعات) المركز الأول برصيد 479 نقطة، متفوقا على كل من رومانيا (5 رباعات) صاحبة المركز الثاني برصيد 282 نقطة، وأمريكا (5 رباعات) التي حلت ثالثة برصيد 258 نقطة، فيما جاءت الصين تايبيه (3 رباعات) رابعة برصيد 219 نقطة، فيما حلت اليابان (3 رباعات) في المركز الخامس برصيد 177 نقطة.

وأقيمت اليوم في ختام المنافسات خمسة أوزان، فعلى صعيد منافسات الرجال شهد وزن 109 كج مشاركة 10 رباعين، حيث توج البيلاروسي أندريه أرامانو بذهبيتي الخطف بوزن 183 كج والمجموع إجمالي 401 كج، وفضية النتر بوزن 218 كج، فيما نال الليتواني اروتوس بليسنيكس ذهبية النتر بوزن 220 كج، وفضية المجموعة بإجمالي 394 كج، بينما حصد الأوزبكستاني أكبار ديجاريف فضية الخطف بوزن 179 كج، وبرونزيتي النتر بوزن 213 كج والمجموعة بوزن 292 كج، وأخيرا نال الإيراني نعمة أغايي برونزية الخطف بوزن 175 كج.

أما في وزن فوق 109 كج الذي شهد مشاركة 7 رباعين فقد توج الصيني اولي يونان بذهبيتي الخطف بوزن 193كج والمجموع إجمالي 430 كج، وفضية النتر بوزن 237 كج، فيما نال الأوبكستاني رستم دجتنجبايف ذهبية النتر بوزن 237 كج، وفضيتي الخطف بوزن 192 كج، والمجموع بإجمالي 429 كج، بينما حصد الإيراني همايون تيموري برونزيتي الخطف بوزن 191 كج، والمجموع بإجمالي 414 كج، وأخيرا نال التركمانستاني تيوهيف هجاموهاميت برونزية النتر بوزن 228 كج.
