“Umm Ali”: the most famous dessert in the Sheraton Grand Hotel

Doha: Chef Ahmed Al-Shahat said that “Umm Ali” is the most popular dessert at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, as it is in high demand within all nationalities, especially Qataris, who make up about 80% of the total orders, stressing that “Umm Ali” in Sheraton is the best compared to other hotels. He added that he has been working for the past 17 years at Sheraton Grand Hotel, and has worked on forming a team specialized in preparing «Umm Ali», where he established a distinct method of preparing the dessert, which made the hotel famous for serving Arabic sweets, indicating that he is keen to meet the aspirations of guests in line with Qatari Authentic hospitality.

Chef Ahmed Al-Shahat explained that the distinction of “Umm Ali” in the Sheraton Grand Hotel is due to the fact that the ingredients are exact, and “Umm Ali” dishes are placed in the refrigerator for a day after preparing them, in addition to all the ingredients being prepared in the hotel, indicating that all members of the crew adhere to the same standards and methods of preparation.

He noted that the ingredients of “Umm Ali” dessert include dough, butter, flour, sugar, and fresh milk, in addition to cream, indicating that preparing “Umm Ali” dish takes five to seven minutes in the event that all the ingredients are ready. Preparing large quantities for conferences and major celebrations takes longer. Chef Ahmed Al-Shahat expected an increase in demand for Umm Ali at the Sheraton Grand Hotel during the National Day celebrations, especially in light of the special offers that the hotel provides to its guests.

He confirmed that The Sheraton Grand Hotel offers the best kinds of Arabic sweets, indicating that the orders of “Umm Ali” are available all day.

He said that what was published on social media about the departure of the chef specialized in preparing “Umm Ali” from the Sheraton Grand Hotel is untrue, stressing that he is still at the top of his work. Sheraton Hotel & Resort is considered a landmark and has occupied a distinguished place in the hearts of Qatar’s residents for more than three decades, as it has hosted an unlimited number of special events that carry many memories dear to Qataris.

Despite the continuous renovations of the Sheraton Grand Hotel, it still adheres to its originality and authenticity with its exceptional architecture, and this is what he highlighted as an ancient and luxurious landmark and what made it compatible with different generations in a continuous development process to meet the needs of modern travelers.

الدوحة: قال الشيف أحمد الشحات، إن أكلة «أم علي» هي الأشهر في فندق شيراتون جراند، حيث تحظي بإقبال كبير من جميع الجنسيات وخاصة القطريين الذين يشكلون حوالي 80% من إجمالي الطلبات، مؤكدًا أن «أم علي» في شيراتون هي الأفضل مقارنة بنظيراتها في الفنادق الأخرى. وأضاف أنه يعمل منذ 17 عامًا في شيراتون جراند، وقد عمل على تكوين فريق متخصص في تجهيز «أم علي»، حيث أسس طريقة مميزة لتحضير الأكلة والتي أكسبت الفندق شهرة في تقديم الحلويات العربية، مبينًا أنه يحرص على تلبية تطلعات الضيوف بما يتماشى مع الضيافة القطرية الأصيلة.

وأوضح الشيف أحمد الشحات أن تميز «أم علي» في شيراتون جراند يرجع إلى أن المقادير مضبوطة، كما يتم وضع أطباق «أم علي» في الثلاجة لمدة يوم بعد تحضيرها، بالإضافة إلى أن جميع المكونات يتم تجهيزها في الفندق، مشيرًا إلى أن جميع أفراد فريق العمل يلتزمون بنفس المعايير وطرق التحضير.

ونوّه إلى أن مكونات أكلة «أم علي» تشمل، عجينة، وزبدة، ودقيقًا وسكرًا، وحليبًا طازجًا، بالإضافة إلى كريمة، مبينًا أن تجهيز طبق «أم علي» يستغرق من خمسة إلى سبعة دقائق وذلك في حالة أن تكون جميع المكونات جاهزة، مشيرًا إلى أن تجهيز الكميات الكبيرة للمؤتمرات والاحتفالات الكبرى يستغرق وقتًا أطول. وتوقع الشيف أحمد الشحات زيادة الإقبال على «أم علي» في شيراتون جراند خلال احتفالات اليوم الوطني، خاصة في ظل العروض المميزة التي يوفرها الفندق لضيوفه، مشيرًا إلى زيادة الطلب على «أم علي» خلال العطلات الأسبوعية.

وأكّد فندق شيراتون جراند يقدم أجود أنواع الحلويات العربية، مبينًا أن طلبات «أم علي» متوفرة على مدار اليوم.

وقال إن ما نُشر على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي حول مغادرة الشيف المتخصص في تجهيز «أم علي» بشيراتون جراند عار من الصحة، مؤكدًا أنه مستمر في عمله. فندق ومنتجع شيراتون يعتبر من المعالم البارزة وقد احتل مكانة مميزة في قلوب سكان قطر لأكثر من ثلاثة عقود، حيث استضاف عددًا غير محدود من المناسبات الخاصة التي تحمل العديد من الذكريات العزيزة على القطريين.
