New York is the first American City to Impose Coronavirus Vaccine on Private Sector Employees

Washington: New York will require all private sector workers in the city to be vaccinated against Covid-19, in what would be the strictest vaccine mandate to be imposed anywhere in the USA.
Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Monday the new rule would go into force on Dec. 27 and would apply to all private companies regardless of size. His office will release a set of protocols applying to about 184,000 businesses on Dec. 15 providing further details of the mandate, such as enforcement and penalties for non-compliance.
De Blasio said there “will not be a testing option as an alternative” to being vaccinated, as was being proposed by the Biden administration as part of a separate nationwide plan”.
New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi said for his part, that while the city is monitoring the Omicron variant, Delta cases have been going up in every borough since early November.
“Vaccines work, and vaccine mandates work, particularly when joined with efforts to build vaccine confidence, provide incentives, and improve access, as we have in New York City,” he added. “We’ve seen this with our health care workers, school staff and public employees. Now it’s time for the private sector to step up and follow suit.”
Current New York City COVID-19 rules also include at least one vaccine dose for indoor restaurant dining, entertainment venues and fitness centers.

كما أعرب عمدة نيويورك، الذي من المفترض أن يغادر منصبه نهاية العام الجاري، عن اعتقاده بأن فرض اللقاح يمكن أن يصمد أمام الدعاوى القضائية المتوقعة، مؤكدا أنه من المقرر أن يدخل القرار حيز التنفيذ في 27 ديسمبر الجاري.
وفرض العديد من أرباب العمل في القطاع الخاص على العمال لديهم تلقي اللقاح، لكن الأمر لم يكن إلزاميا حتى الآن.
وتلزم مدينة نيويورك، أكبر مدن الولايات المتحدة، بالفعل عمال البلدية بتلقي اللقاح، ويمكن للأشخاص الذين تلقوا اللقاح فقط دخول أماكن الترفيه والصالات الرياضية والمطاعم.
ووفقا للإحصائيات، فإن حوالي 90 بالمئة من سكان نيويورك تلقوا جرعة واحدة على الأقل من لقاح كورونا.
