QU’s Al Bairaq Program starts ‘I am a Researcher’ track
«البيرق» يطلق الموسم الجديد لمسار «أنا باحث»
Qatar University’s (QU) Al Bairaq Program, which is under the university’s Center for Advanced Materials (CAM), announced the launch of the 17th cycle of its “I am a Researcher” track, coinciding with the start of the new academic year.
The track, which started on September 5 and is now on its 9th consecutive year, is designed for Qatari high school seniors and aims to engage and stimulate student curiosity about science.
A large number of senior students in various Qatari secondary schools participated in this year’s symposium. It helps transform high school students to researchers by working within a university environment, alongside experienced professors in the field of research. Young researchers also benefit from the opportunity to experience and qualify through the undergraduate experience.
The track familiarises students to the broad fields of science and improves their knowledge in various scientific disciplines. Consequently, students are aided in choosing appropriate university specialisations.
Through diligent work and a series of theoretical workshops, applied scientifically and practically, in a scientific environment, students are instilled with the fundamentals to perform scientific research.
This cycle accommodated students from four private and public schools: Al-Arqam Academy for Girls, Qatar Banking Studies and Business Administration Independent Secondary School for Boys, Al Maha Academy for Boys and Doha Independent Secondary School for Boys.
President of Al Bairaq Program and Head of Communication and Outreach at QU, Dr. Noora Jabor Al-Thani spoke at the event saying, “Research is of great importance in solving problems through the combination of knowledge, observations and data, leading to creative solutions and innovative products, which can help individuals, industries and countries to transform theories into practical applications.
Nations are fully aware that they are great only by the contributions of intellectuals, researchers and manufacturers. This is achieved solely with the desire for learning, increase of knowledge, and the ability to think creatively and uniquely and therefore proving the importance of scientific research, not only serving the researcher, but also the entire country and leading to better economy in the world.”
Dr. Noora expressed gratitude and praised Al Bairaq’s sponsors, Ras Laffan Industrial City Community Outreach Programme (RLIC-COP) and UNESCO Office in Doha and Qatar National Commission for Education, Culture and Science. She said, “I appreciate the ongoing support to the project from the supporting companies, who encourage us to continuously develop, confiding to us that we are on the right track”.
QU’s Al-Bairaq program is the only Qatari educational program, which won the “Reimagine Education” award for last three consecutive years.
Al-Bairaq is proud to be the first and only educational program in Qatar that won the WISE Innovation Award for Education in 2015, which proves the excellence of the program and its recognition by international educational institutions as a successful effective program of impressive outcomes in the field of education and human development.
أعلن برنامج «البيرق» التابع لجامعة قطر، عن انطلاق الموسم الجديد لمسار «أنا باحث» مع بداية العام الجامعي.
جاء ذلك ضمن فعاليات اليوم التعريفي للطلبة، حيث استمر نجاح هذا المسار للسنة التاسعة على التوالي، ويُعدّ هذا الموسم هو الموسم السابع عشر. ويتوجّه هذا المسار إلى مشاركة مجموعة كبيرة من الطلبة القطريين بالمرحلة الثانوية، وبالأخص طلاب مرحلة الصف الثاني عشر، في تجربة علمية فريدة من نوعها.
وتستهدف هذه التجربة تحويل الطالب من طالب بالمرحلة الثانوية إلى باحث يعمل داخل بيئة جامعية مع نخبة من الأساتذة البارزين في مجال البحث العلمي.
ويعطي البرنامج فرصة للباحث الصغير ليعيش تجربة الطالب في المرحلة الجامعية، ويؤهله لها، ويجعله هذا المسار أكثر دراية بمجالات العلوم الواسعة، ويزيد من وعي الطالب بالمجالات العلمية المختلفة، التي تضمن له فرصة مميّزة لاختيار التخصص الجامعي المناسب له.
شهد اللقاء التعريفي حضور مجموعة من الطلاب المشاركين في هذا الموسم من مختلف المدارس الحكومية بالدولة. وقد بلغ عدد المداس 4 مدارس ثانوية، وهي: أكاديمية الأرقم للبنات، ومدرسة قطر للعلوم المصرفية الثانوية للبنين، وأكاديمية المها للبنين، ومدرسة الدوحة الثانوية للبنين.
وقد قُدّمت عديد من الأبحاث العلمية في مختلف المجالات باللقاء التعريفي في مركز الأبحاث بجامعة قطر، ومن هذه المجالات: علوم المواد، وعلوم البيئة، والكيمياء، والفيزياء، وغيرها، التي تقدّم حلولاً مبتكرة لكثير من المشكلات المعاصرة، ومن ثم قامت كل مجموعة من الطلاب باختيار البحث الخاص بها. وخلال هذا الموسم، سوف يكون التنافس على 5 أبحاث علمية جديدة ومبتكرة.
وقالت الدكتورة نورة آل ثاني رئيس برنامج «البيرق» ورئيس قسم التواصل والمشاركة بجامعة قطر: «إن للبحث العلمي أهمية كبيرة في حل المشكلات من خلال الجمع بين المعرفة والملاحظات والبيانات؛ مما يؤدي إلى ابتكار الحلول وخلق منتجات جديدة، وهذا يساعد الأفراد والصناعات والبلدان على تحويل النظريات إلى تطبيقات عملية».
وتابعت: «بجانب ورش البحث العلمي، يتلقى الطلاب عديداً من الورش الأخرى التي تساعد على تعزيز البحث العلمي؛ حتى يكتسب طالب «البيرق» خبرة واسعة في مجال البحوث والتنمية ويصبح قادراً على خدمة الوطن وتحقيق رؤية قطر 2030».
وأشادت بجهود رعاة «البيرق»: شركة راس لفان للتواصل الاجتماعي، وشركاء برنامج «البيرق»: منظمة اليونسكو مكتب الدوحة، واللجنة الوطنية القطرية للتربية والثقافة والعلوم.
وأعربت الدكتورة نورة آل ثاني عن فخرها بطلاب «البيرق»، حيث إنهم استطاعوا أن يضعوا أنفسهم على المنصات المحلية والدولية، وحصدوا عديداً من الجوائز العالمية والمحلية من خلال مشاركتهم في عديد من المعارض والمنافسات الدولية والمحلية.
