Qatar to apply clean diesel fuel policy for buses, trucks in 2023

Doha: The Ministry of Transport announced that it is working on completing the requirements necessary for switching the buses and trucks to ecofriendly, ultralow sulfur diesel, in collaboration with the Qatar General Organization for Standards and Metrology (QS), the General Directorate of Traffic, Qatar Energy and several other relevant entities.

This comes in the context of the Ministrys policy for using clean diesel fuel, equivalent to the EURO 5 diesel, on all Qatars imports of buses and trucks, starting with the models manufactured for 2023.

Qatar Energy will provide all transportation sectors needs of EURO5-equivalent diesel fuel to be used on many buses and trucks countrywide, thus significantly reducing carbon emissions and pollution.

Such steps will promote the Transformation to Eco-Friendly Vehicles Strategy in Qatar. They also contribute to upgrading the specifications of buses and trucks to using the clean diesel fuel equivalent to the EURO5 diesel, thus achieving environmental sustainability by rolling out more such clean technologies, fuels and electrical energy to reduce vehicle exhausts and harmful carbon emissions. This not only sets the stage for a cleaner, healthier and safer environment for current and coming generations, but eventually helps reduce greenhouse gases, combat climate change and maintain an economic-environmental balance.

The EURO5-equivalnet diesel fuel provides for best standards, specifications and modern technologies. The goal is to reduce carbon emissions significantly and protect the environment. EURO5 standard for CO does not exceed 1.5%, maximum diesel sulfur content of 10 ppm and smoke opacity of 1.0-1.5 ppm compared to previous standards for buses and trucks compatible with EURO2-3 diesel, which causes more pollution because CO standard is up to 2.1%, smoke opacity is up to 0.46 ppm with a diesel sulfur content of as high as 500 ppm.

Noteworthy, the Ministry of Transport had coordinated with the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) in developing a policy for electric and hybrid vehicles for the State of Qatar, aiming at securing the countrys needs of clean energy permanently and regularly, in addition to identifying the alternatives to secure them, thus contributing effectively to achieving Qatars 2nd National Development Strategy (2018- 2022) and QNV2030.

الدوحة: أعلنت اليوم وزارة المواصلات العمل على استكمال المتطلبات اللازمة لتحويل الحافلات والشاحنات نحو استخدام الديزل الصديق للبيئة والخالي من المادة الكبريتية التي تسبب الانبعاثات الضارة الناجمة عن عملية الاحتراق ، وذلك بالتعاون مع الهيئة العامة القطرية للمواصفات والتقييس، والإدارة العامة للمرور،وشركة قطر للطاقة، والجهات الأخرى ذات الصلة.

ويأتي هذا في إطار السياسة التي اعتمدتها الوزارة لاستخدام وقود الديزل النقي المكافئ للتصنيف الأوروبي (EURO-5) لكافة الحافلات والشاحنات التي سيتم استيرادها لدولة قطر ابتداء من الطرازات المصنعة للعام (2023).

ومن المقرر أن توفر شركة /قطر للطاقة/ كافة احتياجات قطاع النقل من الوقود المكافئ للإصدار الخامس (EURO-5) والذي سيتم استخدامه من قبل عدد كبير من الحافلات والشاحنات العاملة بالدولة، الأمر الذي سيقلل من الانبعاثات الكربونية ويحد من التلوث البيئي بشكل ملحوظ.

وستدعم هذه الخطوات استراتيجية التحول للمركبات الصديقة للبيئة، بالإضافة إلى الارتقاء بمواصفات الحافلات والشاحنات لاستخدام وقود الديزل النظيف المكافئ للتصنيف الأوروبي الخامس (EURO-5)، وذلك بهدف تحقيق الاستدامة البيئية المرجوة من خلال استخدام التقنيات والوقود النظيف والطاقة الكهربائية، للحد من عوادم المركبات والانبعاثات الكربونية الضارة بالبيئة، مما يوفر بيئة نظيفة وصحية وآمنة.

ويتبع وقود الديزل المكافئ للتصنيف الأوروبي الخامس (EURO-5) أفضل المعايير والمواصفات والتقنيات الحديثة، ويتميز بأنه يقلل وبشكل كبير من الانبعاثات الكربونية، ويحافظ على البيئة، حيث أن معايير الانبعاثات الأوروبية لأكسيد الكربون لا تتجاوز (1.5%)، و (10) جزء في المليون للكبريت في وقود الديزل، و (1.0-1.5) جزء في المليون لكثافة الدخان، مقارنة بوقود الديزل المستخدم حالياً بمتطلبات (EURO2-3) الذي يتسبب بتلوث أكبر للبيئة حيث أن نسبة أكسيد الكربون ترتفع إلى (2.1%)، وكثافة الدخان ترتفع إلى (0.46) جزء في المليون، ونسبة الكبريت بوقود الديزل مرتفعة بشكل كبير إلى (500) جزء في المليون.

تجدر الإشارة إلى أن وزارة المواصلات قامت بالتنسيق مع المؤسسة العامة القطرية للكهرباء والماء (كهرماء) لوضع سياسة المركبات الكهربائية والهجينة بدولة قطر، بهدف دعم تأمين حاجة البلاد من الطاقة النظيفة على نحو دائم ومنتظم، ودراسة البدائل المتاحة لتأمينها من أجل المساهمة الفاعلة في تنفيذ استراتيجية التنمية الوطنية (2018-2022)، وتحقيق رؤية قطر 2030.
