Dangers facing students due to European chewing tobacco

A number of parents called for the need to take deterrent measures to prevent chewing tobacco and not allow it to be marketed and traded among students, pointing to the emergence of a new type of imported white chewing tobacco (lyft) widespread among school students, especially middle and high school, because they believe it is considered a catalyst for studying, which poses a significant risk to the health of students.
They called through Al-Sharq for the need to conduct random and continuous inspection on students within the classrooms by school administrations, and to take punitive deterrent measures by the school, with the need to inform the guardian and involve them in the treatment plan, while a number of educators stressed that combating chewing tobacco requires joint efforts from both the family and the school, as the role of parents complements the role of the school in following up and monitoring the student and knowing his peers, and keeping him away from his colleagues who are not disciplined behaviorally.
Dr. Jamal Basuhai, a smoking cessation specialist at Hamad Anti-Smoking Center of Hamad Medical Corporation, stressed the role of the competent authorities to work to prevent chewing tobacco access to schools and universities, and to ban the marketing and sale of them in society in general, stressing their danger to adolescents as nicotine causes high blood pressure, which increases the risk of myocardial infarction or heart attack, as well as mental and behavioral problems later in life.

دعا عدد من أولياء الأمور إلى ضرورة اتخاذ إجراءات رادعة لمنع السويكة وعدم السماح بتسويقها وتداولها بين الطلاب، مشيرين إلى ظهور نوع جديد من السويكة المستوردة ذات لون أبيض (اللفت) منتشرة بين طلاب المدارس وخاصة المرحلتين الإعدادية والثانوية، وذلك لاعتقادهم أنها تعتبر محفزاً على الدراسة، الأمر الذي يشكل خطرا كبيرا على صحة الطلاب.
وطالبوا عبر “الشرق” بضرورة إجراء تفتيش عشوائي ومستمر على الطلاب داخل الصفوف من قبل إدارات المدارس، واتخاذ إجراءات عقابية رادعة من قبل المدرسة، مع ضرورة إبلاغ ولي الأمر وإشراكه في الخطة العلاجية، في حين أكد عدد من التربويين أنَّ مكافحة السويكة يتطلب جهودا مشتركة من الأسرة والمدرسة على حد سواء، حيث أن دور أولياء الأمور مكمل لدور المدرسة في متابعة الطالب ومراقبته ومعرفة أقرانه، وإبعاده عن زملائه غير المنضبطين سلوكياً.
بدوره شدد الدكتور جمال باصهي – أخصائي الإقلاع عن التدخين بمركز حمد لمكافحة التدخين التابع لمؤسسة حمد الطبية، على دور الجهات المختصة للعمل على منع وصول السويكة للمدارس والجامعات، وحظر تسويقها وبيعها في المجتمع بشكل عام، مؤكدا خطرها على المراهقين حيث إنَّ النيكوتين يتسبب في ارتفاع ضغط الدم، مما يزيد من خطر احتشاء عضلة القلب أو نوبة قلبية، بالإضافة إلى مشاكل عقلية وسلوكية في وقت لاحق من حياتهم.
