Doha, Qatar; 1^st November, 2021: Connect with your inner gaming, comic and music geek! Qatar’s largest pop-culture extravaganza, Geekdom, is back with an array of fun-filled in person events to spark the curiosity of everyone’s inner child at the ninth Ajyal Film Festival presented by the Doha Film Institute.

From Nov. 8 to 13, from 2 to 11 PM, free tickets for Geekdom can be reserved at www.dohafilminstitute.com/pages/geekdom for the amazing events at Sikkat Wadi Msheireb which will include video game tournaments, unmissable film screenings, performances by talented artists, fun karaoke and much more.

A unique community engagement platform that provides audiences passionate about art, film, video games, comic books, animation and television with an intimate space to express themselves and connect with other fans and experts from the region, Geekdom is one of the most anticipated events of the year.

Excitement awaits visitors at the Geekdom Tournaments with an incredible selection of titles – from Pokémon GO to the league of Legends, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, Guilty Gear Strive, FIFA22, Valorant, Street Fighter V and Tekken 7.

Geekdom Screenings include four classic Disney hits and two anime features. Watch Mulan (USAS/1998), directed by Barry Cook and Tony Bancroft on Nov. 8 at 4 PM, about a girl who lives under a patriarchal regime and impersonates a man to prevent her ailing father from being drafted into the Chinese military. The Lion King (USA/1994) will be screened on Nov. 9 at 4 PM, in Arabic. An all-time favourite directed by Roger Allers and Rob Minkoff, the film charts the adventures of young lion Simba.

Watch Beauty and the Beast (USA/1991) directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise, about a young prince and his castle’s servants who fall under a wicked spell for his arrogance, on Nov. 10 at 4 PM, and Tarzan (USA, UK/1999) directed by Chris Buck and Kevin Lima, is about the orphaned boy who grows up in the wilderness of Africa and is raised by the gentle gorilla Kala, on Nov. 13 at 4 PM.

Screening at VOX Doha Festival City are fantastic anime features Josee, the Tiger and the Fish (Japan/2020) directed by Kotaro Tamura (Japan/2020) about Tsuneo, a university student with dreams of diving abroad. While out walking one day, he gets a job assisting Josee, an artist whose imagination takes her far beyond her wheelchair. The screenings are on Nov. 9 at 5.30 PM and on Nov. 13 at 2.30 PM. Poupelle of Chimney Town (Japan/2020) a stunning anime directed by Yusuke Hirota, is about young Lubicchi, who lives in Chimney Town, a place where the sky is eternally grey due to the countless smokestacks that billow out soot into the air. It will be screened on Nov. 12 and 13 at 5.30 PM.

 الدوحة، قطر 1 نوفمبر 2021: تعود فعالية الثّقافة الدارجة الأضخم في قطر جيكدوم من جديد خلال النسخة التاسعة من مهرجان أجيال السينمائي التي تنظمها مؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام لتقدِّم لجمهورها باقة متنوعة من الألعاب والأنشطة الترفيهية الممتعة التي تملأ الأجواء بالمرح.

تستمر أنشطة جيكدوم من 8 إلى 13 نوفمبر وتبدأ الساعة 2 ظهراً حتى 11 مساءً، ويمكن المشاركة فيها من خلال حجز التذاكر مجاناً عبر موقع: www.dohafilminstitute.com/pages/geekdom. وتُقام الأنشطة في سكة وادي مشيرب، وتشمل بطولات ألعاب الفيديو المشوّقة، وعروض الأفلام المميّزة، ولقاءات مع فنانين موهوبين، بالإضافة إلى الكاريوكي الممتع، وغير ذلك من الأنشطة.

وفي هذا الصدد ، قالت فاطمة حسن الرميحي، مدير مهرجان أجيال السينمائي والرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة الدوحة للأفلام: “يعكس جيكدوم روح شعار مهرجان هذا العام يلا نبدا، وتجذب أنشطته أفرادَ المجتمع الذين يجمع بينهم حب مشترك للأنشطة الجماعية المليئة بالمتعة والمرح. يكمنُ تميز جيكدوم في تنوعه المبهر على مستوى الأعمار والثقافات، إذ تشارك فيه كافة الأجيال نظراً لإعجابهم بأنشطته التي تجمع بين المتعة والمهارة الفنية والمجهود الفكري. يسمح لنا جيكدوم بإطلاق روح الطفل التي بداخلنا والاحتفاء بأخلاقيات الثقافة الدارجة وهو ما يسهم في تعزيز الأواصر بين أفراد مجتمعنا”.

ويعد جيكدوم أحد أكثر الفعاليات التي ينتظرها الجمهور طيلة العام، إذ يتيح نافذة مجتمعية فريدة تقدم للجمهور العاشق للفنون والأفلام والألعاب والكتب المصوَّرة وأفلام الرسوم المتحركة مساحة للتعبير عن نفسه والتواصل مع غيره من الجماهير والخبراء في المنطقة.

وسيكون في انتظار المشاركين في بطولات جيكدوم للألعاب هذا العام العديد من المنافسات الحماسية من أبرزها بوكيمون غو، وليج أوف ليجيندز، وسوبر سماش بروز التيمت، وجيلتي جير سترايف، وفيفا 22، وفالورانت، وستريت فايتر 5، وتيكن 7.

وستشمل عروض جيكدوم هذا العام أربعة أفلام من أروع كلاسيكيات ديزني هي فيلم مولان (الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية/1998) للمخرجين باري كوك وتوني بانكروفت، ويعرض يوم 8 نوفمبر الساعة 4 مساء. ويروي الفيلم قصة فتاة تعيش في ظل نظام ذكوريّ وتنتحل شخصيّة رجل لتمنع والدها المريض من الالتحاق بالجيش الصيني. وفيلم الأسد الملك (الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية/1994) ويعرض باللغة العربية يوم 9 نوفمبر الساعة 4 عصراً، وهو أحد أشهر الأفلام على مر العصور للمخرجين روجر آليرز وروب مينكوف. ويروي مغامرة الأسد الصغير سمبا.

هذا إلى جانب فيلم الجميلة والوحش (الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية/1991) إخراج غاري تروسجيل وكيرك وايز. ويروي قصة أمير شاب يقع هو وخدم قصره ضحايا لتعويذة ساحرة شريرة. ويعرض يوم 10 نوفمبر الساعة 4 مساء. بالإضافة إلى فيلم طرزان (الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية/1999) إخراج كريس باك وكيفن ليما. ويروي قصة ولد يتيم نشأ في غابات أفريقيا وتربيه الغورية الطيبة كالا. ويعرض يوم 13 نوفمبر الساعة 4 مساء.

فيما تشهد قاعات فوكس سينما في دوحة فيستفال سيتي عرض فيلميّ رسوم متحركة جوزي النمر والسمكة (اليابان 2020) للمخرج كوتارو تامورا ويروي قصة تسونيو وهو طالب جامعي يحلم بالغوص خارج البلاد، وبينما يسير في أحد الشوارع يحصل على عمل يتلخص بمساعدة جوزي، وهي فنانة على كرسي متحرك يأخذها خيالها بعيداً عن واقعها. يعرض الفيلم يوم 9 نوفمبر الساعة 5:30 مساءً ويوم 13 نوفمبر الساعة 2:30 ظهراً. والفيلم الآخر هو بوبيل من مدينة المداخن (اليابان / 2020) من إخراج يوسوك هيروتا ويدور حول الشاب لوبيتشي الصغير الذي يعيش في بلدة تشيمنى التي تلوثت فيها السماء بلون رمادي لا يزول بسبب المداخن التي تضخ الهواء دون توقف. وسيتم عرضه يومي 12 و 13 نوفمبر في تمام الساعة 5.30 مساءً.
