EU to Resume Nuclear Talks with Iran on November 29

Brussels: The European Union announced Wednesday that nuclear talks with Iran on reviving the Iran nuclear deal will resume in Vienna on November 29.

“The Joint Commission of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) will convene in a physical format on 29 November in Vienna,” said the EU European External Action Service in a statement.

The meeting would be chaired by Enrique Mora on behalf of EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, the statement added.

In Tehran, Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri, Iran’s lead negotiator, confirmed the November 29 resumption of talks in Vienna. He tweeted that the date had been set in a phone call with Mora.

Bagheri added that the talks aimed at reviving the countrys nuclear deal with world powers.

In Washington, State Department spokesman Ned Price said that the United States believed it is possible to resolve “quickly” the “relatively small number of issues that remained outstanding at the end of June.”

Six rounds of talks with the remaining parties to the deal China, Russia, Germany, France and the United Kingdom in Vienna, with the US participating indirectly, concluded in late June to allow the administration of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to take form.

In April, Tehran and six powers started to discuss ways to salvage the nuclear pact, which has eroded since 2018 when then-President Donald Trump withdrew the US from it and re-imposed punishing sanctions on Iran, prompting Tehran to breach various limits on uranium enrichment set by the pact.

وقالت الدائرة الأوروبية للشؤون الخارجية، في بيان اليوم، إن اللجنة المشتركة لخطة العمل الشاملة المشتركة ستعقد حضوريا في 29 نوفمبر في فيينا، لافتة إلى أن السيد إنريكي مورا منسق الاتحاد الأوروبي بشأن المحادثات النووية مع إيران سيترأس تلك المحادثات نيابة عن مسؤول السياسة الخارجية في الاتحاد الأوروبي السيد جوزيب بوريل.

وفي طهران، ذكر السيد علي باقري، نائب وزير الخارجية الإيراني، أن المحادثات المرتقبة تهدف إلى إحياء الاتفاق بشأن البرنامج النووي.

وفي سياق متصل، علقت وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية على الاتفاق الأوروبي الإيراني بالعودة إلى طاولة المفاوضات بالقول “إن التوصل إلى حل وسط لإنقاذ الاتفاق النووي مع إيران أمر ممكن بسرعة”.

جدير بالذكر أن السيد حسين أمير عبداللهيان وزير الخارجية الإيراني كان قد أكد في نهاية شهر أكتوبر الماضي أن المفاوضات النووية مع مجموعة الدول (4+1) ستبدأ من جديد في وقت قريب.
