Qatar Set to Welcome World in 99 Days to Arab, Middle-East’s First World Cup

Doha: The State of Qatar is set to welcome football fans from all over the world to the first World Cup taking place in an Arab country and the Middle-East, giving them a chance to get to know the country and the region’s Arab culture.

This edition of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will be transformative for Qatar and the entire region. The tournament will deliver a legacy that sets the standard for future mega-event hosts.

For HE Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) Hassan Al Thawadi the final at Lusail Stadium on Qatar National Day will be the culmination of a 12-year journey, after the country won the hosting rights in 2010.

“We have come such a long way in a relatively short space of time,” said Al Thawadi. “Hosting the World Cup has accelerated the development of our great country in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. We have built incredible infrastructure, developed a world-class sports and events industry, and delivered human and social projects to benefit people in Qatar and around the world,” he said.

Al Thawadi continued: “From day one, we have said that hosting the World Cup is about much more than football. It is about inspiring a generation and showing young people across Qatar and the Arab world what is possible. Few of us ever dreamed that Qatar would host a tournament of this magnitude but look at us now.” For his part, SC Director-General Eng. Yasir Al Jamal has also been involved in Qatars preparations from the start. He has played a major role in the delivery of tournament infrastructure, including the seven stadiums the country has built from scratch, plus the redevelopment of Khalifa International.

“Everyone at the SC along with our many stakeholders can be very proud of the projects we have worked so hard to deliver,” said Al Jamal. “It is amazing to think that at the start of this journey we simply had a vision and ideas now we have infrastructure and venues that communities across the country are using every single day. We see the legacy of this World Cup making a difference to peoples lives long before the big kick-off,” he said.

CEO, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC Nasser Al Khater has also played a prominent role in tournament preparations since the bid. He says fans should expect a once-in-a-lifetime experience when they arrive in Qatar later this year.

“When fans arrive in Qatar, they will experience our warm hospitality and our passion for football,” said Al Khater. “If you love football, this will be the place to be and thanks to our compact nature, youll be able to attend more matches than ever before. Even away from the action on the pitch, there will be so much to do, with tourist attractions and many entertainment options. I encourage everyone to buy their tickets and experience a World Cup like no other in history,” he said.

The opening match of the World Cup will take place on Nov. 20 between Qatar and Ecuador. It will conclude on Dec. 18 at 80000-seat Lusail stadium.

الدوحة: تستعد قطر لاستضافة عشاق الساحرة المستديرة في أول نسخة من المونديال تقام في العالم العربي والشرق الأوسط، حيث ستتاح الفرصة أمام المشجعين من كافة أنحاء العالم للتعرف على قطر والمنطقة والثقافة العربية الأصيلة.

وأكد سعادة السيد حسن الذوادي، الأمين العام للجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث، أن نهائي مونديال قطر الذي سيقام في استاد لوسيل يوم 18 ديسمبر المقبل، تزامناً مع اليوم الوطني للدولة، تتويج لجهود اثني عشر عاماً من العمل المتواصل استعداداً للحدث العالمي، بداية من لحظة تقديم ملف قطر لاستضافة البطولة.

وبمناسبة انطلاق العد التنازلي لـ 100 يوم على صافرة البداية، يوم الجمعة، أضاف الذوادي في تصريح له: “قطعنا شوطاً كبيراً وأنجزنا الكثير في فترة قصيرة نسبياً، فقد ساعد فوزنا باستضافة المونديال في تسريع وتيرة التنمية في البلاد، تماشياً مع رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030،حيث نجحنا في إنشاء بنية تحتية متميزة، كما قدمنا مستوىً عالمياً في مجال استضافة الأحداث الرياضية، وأنجزنا العديد من المشاريع على الصعيدين الإنساني والاجتماعي تعود بالنفع على قطر والعالم”.

وتابع “أكدنا منذ اليوم الأول أن الأمر لا يقتصر على مجرد تنظيم منافسات في كرة القدم على مدى 29 يوماً، فنحن نسعى إلى تقديم نموذج ملهم للأجيال المقبلة، فقد أردنا تعليم الشباب في قطر والعالم العربي إمكانية تحقيق ما قد يبدو مستحيلاً، لقد ساور الكثيرين الشك في قدرة قطر على استضافة بطولة بهذا الحجم، ولكن الجميع يشهدون الآن قدرتنا على إنجاز ذلك على أرض الواقع”.

من جهته، أشاد المهندس ياسر عبد الله الجمال، المدير العام للجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث، بالدور الذي لعبه الجميع في اللجنة العليا وشركائها على طريق الإعداد للبطولة.

وقال:”نفخر بما أنجزناه من مشاريع، وبما بذلناه من جهود على مدى السنوات الماضية لتنفيذها على أكمل وجه، كانت مجرد أحلام، وأفكار ورؤى، والآن أصبح لدينا بنية تحتية متكاملة على أحدث طراز، ومرافق متميزة يستخدمها الجميع في كل يوم، ما أروع رؤية إرث البطولة يحدث تغييراً ملموساً في حياة الناس حتى قبل انطلاق منافسات البطولة”.

ومن جانبه قال السيد ناصر الخاطر، الرئيس التنفيذي لبطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2202، إن الجماهير على موعد مع تجربة استثنائية تفوق توقعاتهم في نهاية هذا العام.

وأضاف:”ستشهد الجماهير القادمة من أنحاء العالم طيب الترحاب في قطر، وستلمس شغفاً كبيراً بكرة القدم وبالبطولة المرتقبة”، لافتا إلى أن عشاق كرة القدم، على موعد مع المونديال الأكثر تقارباً في المسافات في تاريخ كأس العالم، وسيكون بإمكانهم حضور عدد أكبر من المباريات، إضافة إلى الاستمتاع بالكثير من الأنشطة خارج استادات البطولة، بفضل العديد من معالم الجذب السياحية والخيارات الترفيهية المتنوعة.

يشار إلى أن مونديال قطر 2022 ينطلق في 20 نوفمبر بمباراة الافتتاح بين منتخبي قطر والإكوادور في استاد البيت، وتشهد البطولة 64 مباراة على مدى 29 يوماً، ويسدل الستار على المنافسات يوم 18 ديسمبر في استاد لوسيل، الذي يتسع لـ 80 ألف مشجع.
