QE Enters Offshore Atlantic Exploration in Canada

Doha: QatarEnergy (QE) signed an agreement with ExxonMobil Canada to farm into an exploration license offshore the province of Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada.
The transaction has received all necessary consents from the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board (C-NLOPB).
According to the agreement, QatarEnergy will hold a 40% participating interest in license EL 1165A, where the Hampden exploration well activities are planned. The remaining interest is held by ExxonMobil Canada.
Commenting on this occasion, HE the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President and CEO of QatarEnergy Saad Sherida Al Kaabi said, “We are pleased to conclude this agreement which represents our first entry into Offshore Canada, in an established producing basin with the leading producer in the area. This builds on our strong partnership with ExxonMobil and is an important addition to our growing international exploration portfolio.”
The block covered by this license is located approximately 450 km east of the city of St. John’s in Newfoundland and Labrador, in water depths of approximately 1,100 meters.

الدوحة: وقعت قطر للطاقة اتفاقية مع شركة إكسون موبيل كندا للاستحواذ على حصة من رخصة استكشاف بحري قبالة شواطئ مقاطعة نيوفاوندلاند ولابرادور في كندا.
وقد حصلت الاتفاقية على جميع الموافقات اللازمة من مجلس كندا نيوفاوندلاند ولابرادور للبترول البحري (C-NLOPB).
وبموجب الاتفاقية، تمتلك قطر للطاقة حصة مشاركة بنسبة 40 بالمئة في رخصة الاستكشاف EL 1165A، حيث ستبدأ نشاطات حفر بئر “هامبدن” الاستكشافية، فيما ستحتفظ إكسون موبيل كندا بالحصة المتبقية.
وفي معرض تعليقه بهذه المناسبة، قال سعادة المهندس سعد بن شريده الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للطاقة: “يسعدنا إبرام هذه الاتفاقية التي تمثل مشاركتنا الأولى في مناطق الاستكشاف البحرية في كندا، وفي حوض نفطي مهم ومنتج.. وأكد قائلا إن “هذه الاتفاقية مبنية على شراكتنا القوية مع إكسون موبيل وهي تشكل إضافة مهمة لمحفظتنا الدولية المتنامية للتنقيب والاستكشاف”.
وتقع المنطقة البحرية موضوع الاتفاقية على بعد 450 كم شرقي مدينة سانت جون في مقاطعة نيوفاوندلاند ولابرادور حيث يبلغ عمق المياه فيها ما يقارب من 1,100 متر.
