AFC Champions League: Al Rayyan Loses to Al Wahda 0-1

Goa: Al Rayyan lost Friday to Al Wahda, with Omar Khribins second half penalty enough to end the game 0-1 in Group E of the 2021 AFC Champions League.

Khibin converted from the spot 19 minutes from time to give Henk ten Cates side victory and move the club from Abu Dhabi on to seven points from their first four games of this years campaign.

AFC’s official website said the win was Al Wahdas second in three days over the Qatari side and came after Ahmed Abdul Maqsoud and Franck Kom had both been sent off for Laurent Blancs team before the 2017 AFC Player of the Year scored the games only goal.

A tame first half was largely devoid of the drama that marked the last 30 minutes of the teams previous encounter on Wednesday when Al Wahda scored three times to win that match, although everything changed during first half injury time when Maqsoud was sent off. Tim Matavz had come closest to opening the scoring when the Slovenian striker unleashed a volley from outside the area in the 24th minute that Fahad Younis was forced to palm over the bar.

Ten minutes later Fares Jumaa, who had scored a dramatic winner for Al Wahda in the previous encounter, attempted to direct a header towards goal, only for his effort to be well off target. But the game changed as time ticked towards the interval when Abdulla Anwar attempted to skip past Maqsoud, only for the defender to lean on the forward as he tried to sprint past and, as a result of the foul, referee Ahmed Al Ali showed the red card.

Al Rayyan survived unscathed until the last 20 minutes, but their hopes of holding on for a draw ended when Kom was judged to have fouled Jumaa in the area and Al Ali pointed to the spot. After booking the Cameroonian defender for his initial foul, the referee pulled out a second yellow card for Kom for dissent to send him to the changing rooms and leave Al Rayyan with nine players on the field.

Khrbin stepped up to confidently strike the penalty into the corner of Younis goal to give Al Wahda the win and, in the process, end Al Rayyans hopes of progressing to the next phase of the competition. Ismaeil Matars sending off in injury time at the end of the game took some of the gloss off the win for Al Wahda, who next face group leaders Persepolis on Monday.

وأكمل الريان المباراة بتسعة لاعبين عقب طرد أحمد عبد المقصود (45+1) وفرانك كوك (68)، في حين أكمل الوحدة المباراة بعشرة لاعبين عقب طرد المهاجم إسماعيل مطر (90+1).

ويتصدر بيرسيبوليس ترتيب المجموعة برصيد 9 نقاط كاملة من ثلاث مباريات، مقابل 7 نقاط من أربع مباريات للوحدة ونقطتين لـ /جوا/ ونقطة للريان.

وجاءت مجريات الشوط الأولى خالية من الفرص الفعلية أمام المرمى، حيث لم يتهدد كلا المرميين بأي فرص حقيقية.

وكانت أبرز فرص الشوط الأول لصالح الوحدة عبر تسديدة تيم ماتافز على الطاير من خارج منطقة الجزاء والتي أبعدها الحارس فهد يونس إلى ركلة ركنية. في حين مرت رأسية فارس جمعة خارج الخشبات الثلاث لمرمى الريان.

وأعلن الوقت بدل الضائع من الشوط الأول عن إمكانية حصول تغيير كبير في الشوط الثاني، وذلك عقب طرد لاعب الريان أحمد عبدالمقصود نتيجة مخالفة على عبدالله أنور.

وفي الشوط الثاني، حاول الريان الاعتماد على الإغلاق الدفاعي للحد من محاولات الوحدة، ولكن الفريق الإماراتي نجح في تسجيل هدف التقدم بالدقيقة 71 عبر ضربة جزاء نفذها عمر خربين، واحتسبت نتيجة المخالفة التي ارتكبها فرانك كوم على فارس جمعة داخل المنطقة، وحصل كوم على الإنذار الثاني ليغادر الملعب.

ولم تتغير النتيجة في الدقائق المتبقية ليحقق الوحدة الفوز الثاني على التوالي.

وتقام الجولة الخامسة من منافسات المجموعة يوم /الاثنين/ المقبل، حيث يلتقي الوحدة مع بيرسيبوليس، والريان مع /جوا/ الهندي.

وكانت الجولة الأولى قد شهدت فوز بيرسيبوليس على الوحدة 1-0 وتعادل /جوا/ مع الريان 0-0، في حين شهدت الجولة الثانية فوز بيرسيبوليس على الريان 3-1 وتعادل الوحدة مع /جوا/ 0-0، وشهدت الجولة الثالثة فوز الوحدة على الريان 3-2 وبيرسيبوليس على /جوا/ 2-1.

ويتأهل إلى دور الـ16 صاحب المركز الأول في كل مجموعة، إلى جانب أفضل ستة أندية تحصل على المركز الثاني في المجموعات العشرة.
