Qatar Supports UNESCO Efforts to Combat Hate Speech

Paris: The State of Qatar and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) have signed an agreement under the terms of which the State of Qatar will provide financial support worth $130,000 to the high-level ministerial conference to combat hate speech through education, to be held by the organization on October 26 in the French capital, Paris.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the State of Qatar by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to UNESCO Nasser Al Hanzab, and Stefania Giannini, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Education.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) after the signing, HE Nasser Al Hanzab said this agreement comes within the framework of Qatar’s continuous support for international efforts to combat hatred and promote peace and coexistence among peoples of different cultures and religions.
For its part, UNESCO welcomed this support for the ministerial conference aimed at strengthening international efforts to combat hate speech that leads to extremism and terrorism.
The World Conference of Education Ministers seeks to build consensus on strengthening education responses to hate speech and develop concrete recommendations to address it globally.

باريس: وقعت دولة قطر ومنظمة الأمم المتحدة للتربية والعلم والثقافة /اليونسكو/، اتفاقية تقدم بموجبها دولة قطر دعما ماليا بقيمة 130 ألف دولار لتنظيم المؤتمر الوزاري رفيع المستوى لمكافحة خطاب الكراهية من خلال التعليم، والذي تعقده المنظمة يوم 26 أكتوبر الجاري بالعاصمة الفرنسية باريس.
وقع الاتفاقية عن دولة قطر سعادة السيد ناصر الحنزاب المندوب الدائم لدولة قطر لدى منظمة اليونسكو، وعن المنظمة السيدة ستيفانيا جيانيني المديرة العامة المساعدة لشؤون التعليم.
وقال سعادة السيد ناصر الحنزاب، في تصريح لوكالة الأنباء القطرية /قنا/ عقب التوقيع، إن هذه الاتفاقية تأتي في إطار دعم دولة قطر المتواصل للجهود الدولية الرامية لمكافحة الكراهية، وتعزيز السلام والتعايش بين الشعوب بمختلف ثقافاتها وأديانها.
من جانبها، رحبت منظمة /اليونسكو/ بهذا الدعم للمؤتمر الوزاري الهادف لتعزيز الجهود الدولية في مكافحة خطاب الكراهية المؤدي للتطرف والإرهاب.
ويسعى المؤتمر العالمي لوزراء التعليم لبناء توافق في الآراء حول تعزيز استجابات التعليم لخطاب الكراهية ووضع توصيات ملموسة لمواجهته عالميا.
