Doha: The budget surplus of Qatar in 2023 is projected to reach 9%, supported by rising oil prices and reduced public spending, according to a report by Qatar TV citing global economic estimates.
The report states that oil prices throughout this year will continue to contribute to Qatar’s budget surplus by maintaining averages higher than the estimated oil prices in Qatar’s 2023 budget. Additionally, overall spending will decrease.
The report also cites the British economic institution “Oxford Economics” stating that the average budget surplus will reach 9% of the Gross Domestic Product for the current year.
Estimates from the International Monetary Fund suggest that Qatar’s budget is the most financially balanced among the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. It only requires an oil price of $44.80 per barrel to achieve budget equilibrium in 2023, considering income and expenditure levels in the budget.
According to the report, this implies that Qatar is the least exposed to oil price fluctuations in the global markets.
The average price of Qatari crude oil, both onshore and offshore, reached $80 per barrel from January to July 2023, compared to the estimated price of $65 per barrel in Qatar’s budget.
