Reem Al-Kuthairi tells her most dangerous experiences and the secret of flying over Al-Bayt Stadium

Doha: CNN highlighted Qatari captain Reem Al-Kuthairi, the first woman to specialize in paragliding in Qatar and the Middle East.

According to a site report, Al-Kuthairi fly over Qatar’s most prominent attractions and share unique tours with her followers, and you can clearly notice her love for the field through her Instagram posts.

According to the website, Al-Kuthairi obtained an NPPL license in microlight in 2014 from the UK, after four weeks of hard work, completed her training, and passed all the required tests from the first attempt, thus becoming the first woman to specialize in microlight aviation in Qatar and the Middle East.

In 2015, the Qatari captain ordered her own plane and went to the factory in France to choose her own colors and specifications, and green was her color because it made her feel psychologically comfortable and reminded her of nature, especially since she sometimes flew over desert land.

In 2016, she received her QCAA-registered aircraft, which made her the first woman to own a plane in Qatar.

Al-Kuthairi travel for advanced mountain flying over the peaks of the French Alps, every winter since 2018, at an altitude of more than 12,000 feet.

In 2020, she obtained her paragliding license with the Paramotor engine in Qatar.

The Qatari captain belongs to BGD of Fly BGD, one of the world’s most renowned sailing wing manufacturers.

CNN says Al-Kuthairi obtained a free-flying license without the Paragliding engine in 2021, after training in Turkey and France, and is currently training on the light fixed-wing aircraft, and will begin training on the Jayrocopter in January.

Al-Kuthairi is the first Qatari to cross the mountain outcrops of the Midi summit through free sail without an engine, at an altitude of up to 3,842 meters, which is a great achievement for any glider to achieve this journey.

Crossing the mountain outcrops of the Midi summit requires 100% unpredictable special weather conditions, as it is possible to see if the wind is in the right direction expected to take off, when only at the take-off site.

“Height can be dangerous with lack of experience,” she said.

From the sky of Qatar

Al-Kuthairi also flies over an island known as Ras Rakan, where it cannot be entered by car, saying: “It feels exceptional to see it from a different angle, especially when thousands of birds travel to it in season, such as flamingos. You’ll really be surprised to find out they exist in Qatar,” she said, explaining that these aircraft have the ability to come down to the lowest level they want, but within the limits of the law.

The Qatari captain uses paragliding with a paramotor engine when flying over the sand dunes that meet the sea, and of course, flying is not without the challenges the captain may face, most notably the weather and the air bumps that can be felt on light aircraft.

There are also regular checks that must be confirmed before each flight to ensure the safety of the aircraft, as you do when you check the heat of the car, for example.

وفقاً للموقع، حصلت الكثيري على رخصة NPPL في الطيران الشراعي “المايكرولايت” عام 2014 من المملكة المتحدة، بعد 4 أسابيع من العمل الشاق، وأكملت تدريبها، واجتازت جميع الاختبارات المطلوبة من المحاولة الأولى، وبذلك، أصبحت الكثيري أول امرأة تتخصص في مجال طيران الـ”مايكرولايت” في قطر والشرق الأوسط.

وفي عام 2020، حصلت على رخصتها في الطيران الشراعي المظلي بمحرك “الباراموتور” في قطر.

يُذكر أن القبطانة القطرية تنتمي إلى فريق BGD، الذي يتبع شركة “Fly BGD”، أحد أكثر مصنعي الأجنحة الشراعية شهرة في العالم.

ويقول موقع CNN إن الكثيري حصلت على رخصة الطيران الشراعي الحر بدون محرك “الباراجلايد” في عام 2021، بعد إجراء تدريباتها في تركيا وفرنسا، وتتدرّب حاليًا على الطائرة الخفيفة ذات الأجنحة الثابتة، كما ستبدأ تدريبها على طائرة الـ”جايروكوبتر” في يناير المقبل.

وتُعد الكثيري هي أول قطرية تعبر النتوءات الجبلية لقمة ميدي من خلال الطيران الشراعي الحر بدون محرك، وعلى ارتفاع يصل إلى 3,842 مترًا، ما يُعتبر إنجازًا كبيرًا لأي طيار شراعي لتحقيق هذه الرحلة.

ويتطلّب عبور النتوءات الجبلية لقمة ميدي ظروفًا جوية خاصة لا يمكن التنبؤ بها بنسبة 100٪، إذ يمكن معرفة ما إذا كانت الرياح بالاتجاه الصحيح المتوقع للانطلاق، لدى التواجد في موقع الإقلاع فقط.

وأوضحت الكثيري: “قد يكون الارتفاع خطرًا مع قلة الخبرة”.

من سماء قطر
ويتميز كل نوع من هذه الطائرات بشعور مختلف عن الآخر. ليس ذلك فحسب، وإنما تستخدم القبطانة القطرية الطيران الشراعي “المايكرولايت” في أماكن تختلف عن الطيران الشراعي المظلي بمحرك “الباراموتور”.

وأوضحت الكثيري: “يعتمد الباراموتور على الجسم كليًا.. تشعر وكأنك تجلس على الهواء، وستهبط على قدميك”.

وفي الأماكن الشمالية من البلاد، تستخدم الطيران الشراعي “المايكرولايت” فوق منطقة الخور، وأشجار المانغروف، واستاد البيت الذي سيستضيف مباراة افتتاح كأس العالم 2022.

وتحلّق الكثيري أيضًا فوق جزيرة تُعرف باسم رأس ركن، حيث لا يمكن دخولها بالسيارة، قائلة: “شعور استثنائي عند رؤيتها من زاوية مختلفة عن الآخرين، خاصة عندما تسافر إليها آلاف الطيور في الموسم، مثل طيور الفلامينغو.. وستتفاجئ حقًا من وجودها بقطر”، وموضحة أن هذه الطائرات تتميز بقدرتها على الهبوط إلى أدنى مستوى تريده، ولكن بحدود القانون.

وتستخدم القبطانة القطرية الطيران الشراعي المظلي بمحرك “الباراموتور” عندما تحلق فوق الكثبان الرملية التي تلتقي بالبحر، وبالطبع، لا يخلو الطيران من التحديات التي قد يواجها القبطان، وأبرزها عامل الجو والمطبات الهوائية التي يمكن الشعور بها على متن الطائرات الخفيفة.

وهناك أيضًا فحوصات منتظمة يجب التأكد منها قبل كل رحلة للتأكد من سلامة الطائرة، كما تفعل عندما تتأكد من حرارة السيارة على سبيل المثال.

ردود الفعل
وحازت مقاطع فيديوهات الكثيري على إعجاب العديد من الأشخاص، ما جعلها تشجع متابعيها على خوض تجربة الطيران الآمنة، وتغيير وجهة نظرهم حول مخاطرها.

وعلى سبيل المثال، نشرت القبطانة القطرية مقطع فيديو تُوقف فيه محرك الطائرة عن قصد، حتى تبرهن لمتابعيها أنه لن يحدث أي سوء وستكون الأمور على ما يرام، وبالتالي يجب الالتزام باتباع أسلوب معين لمنع حدوث أي خطر.

متى تنصحك الكثيري بزيارة قطر؟
وتشجع القبطانة القطرية جميع الناس على زيارة قطر كونها تحتضن مواقع خفية جميلة، قائلة: “يتواجد إقبال كبير من السياحة أكثر من السابق، خاصة مع اقتراب كأس العالم 2022”.
