“The Potato Eaters”… Controversial masterpiece in Amsterdam

Amsterdam: “The Potato Eaters” is considered on of the first masterpieces of the famous painter Vincent van Gogh, and undoubtedly was the biggest factors of “failure” for him. The painting depicts five people sitting in a cramped kitchen, having dinner with tired faces and slender hands, in a dark and dreary scene. The Dutch painter is famous for his delightful landscape paintings in the light-filled south of France. But for the first time, Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum is dedicating an exclusive exhibition to this early depiction of peasant life, filled with darkness, but also with admiration. Emily Jordanker, director of the museum, said the exhibition began last Friday and features about 50 paintings, sketches, drawings and speeches that tell the story of the painting, the story of ambition and perseverance.
