Qatar Participates in WHO East Mediterranean Region’s Meeting

Doha: The State of Qatar is taking part in the 68th meeting of the World Health Organization’s Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, which started yesterday through video communication technology and will continue until the 14th of this October.
Qatar is represented at the meetings by HE the Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari.
In a speech he gave at the opening session, Director-General of the World Health Organization Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus praised the great efforts made by the State of Qatar to support the health sector in Afghanistan, and expressed his thanks and appreciation for its fruitful cooperation with the World Health Organization.
The meetings discuss many important topics, including preparedness and response activities for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, health issues facing populations affected by disasters and emergencies, with a special focus on international health regulations, accelerating the pace of preparedness and response to health emergencies, as well as topics related to data fragmentation in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, building resilient societies for improved health and wellness, and addressing diabetes as a public health challenge in the region.
During the meetings, the participants will review progress reports on polio eradication, progress in implementing the regional tobacco control strategy, expanding work in health care, in addition to regional frameworks for action on climate change and the eliminations of preventable mortality rates among neonatal, children and adolescents and improving their health and growth.
They will also discuss the acceleration of the region’s implementation of the political declaration issued at the third high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases for 2018, and the follow-up of the World Health Assembly and the Executive Board’s resolutions.

الدوحة: تشارك دولة قطر في اجتماعات الدورة الـ68 للجنة الإقليمية لشرق المتوسط بمنظمة الصحة العالمية، التي بدأت يوم أمس “عبر تقنية الاتصال المرئي”، وتستمر إلى الرابع عشر من أكتوبر الجاري.
ويمثل دولة قطر في الاجتماعات سعادة الدكتورة حنان محمد الكواري وزير الصحة العامة.
وفي كلمته بالجلسة الافتتاحية للاجتماعات، أشاد سعادة الدكتور تيدروس أدهانوم غيبريسوس، المدير العام لمنظمة الصحة العالمية، بالجهود الكبيرة التي قامت بها دولة قطر لدعم القطاع الصحي في أفغانستان، كما عبر عن شكره وتقديره لدولة قطر على تعاونها المثمر مع منظمة الصحة العالمية.
وتناقش الاجتماعات العديد من الموضوعات الهامة، منها أنشطة التأهب والاستجابة لجائحة /كوفيد-19/ في إقليم شرق المتوسط، والقضايا الصحية التي تواجه السكان المتضررين من الكوارث وحالات الطوارئ، مع التركيز على اللوائح الصحية الدولية، وتسريع وتيرة التأهب والاستجابة لحالات الطوارئ الصحية، إلى جانب موضوعات تتعلق بتجزؤ البيانات في إقليم شرق المتوسط، وبناء مجتمعات قادرة على الصمود من أجل تحسين الصحة والعافية، والتصدي لمرض السكري بوصفه أحد تحديات الصحة العامة في إقليم شرق المتوسط.
كما ستشهد الاجتماعات استعراض تقارير مرحلية حول استئصال شلل الأطفال، والتقدم المحرز في تنفيذ الاستراتيجية الإقليمية لمكافحة التبغ، وتوسيع نطاق العمل في مجال رعاية الصحة النفسية، بالإضافة إلى إطارات العمل الإقليمية بشأن تغير المناخ وإنهاء وفيات حديثي الولادة والأطفال والمراهقين التي يمكن الوقاية منها، وتحسين صحتهم ونمائهم، وقطاع المستشفيات في إقليم شرق المتوسط.
وتناقش كذلك تسريع وتيرة تنفيذ الإقليم للإعلان السياسي المنبثق عن اجتماع الجمعية العامة رفيع المستوى الثالث المعني بالوقاية من الأمراض غير المعدية (غير السارية) ومكافحتها لعام 2018، ومتابعة قرارات جمعية الصحة العالمية والمجلس التنفيذي.
