Qatar Dribbles into the Future: 2027 FIBA World Cup Ball Handover

Doha: Today, in a dedicated ceremony held on the sidelines of the closing ceremony for the 2023 FIBA World Cup in Manila, Philippines, the State of Qatar officially took possession of the official ball for the 2027 FIBA World Cup.
Manuel Pangilinan, Chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 2023 World Cup in the Philippines, presented the ball to Haman Niang, President of the International Basketball Federation. Niang, in turn, passed it on to Mohamed Al Maghaiseeb, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation, and Sheikha Asma Al Thani, Director of the Marketing and Communication Department of the Qatar Olympic Committee.
The International Basketball Federation had previously announced Qatar as the host for the 2027 World Cup during its meeting in Manila on April 28. The decision was made after a thorough evaluation of bids submitted by various candidate countries. Qatar emerged as the top choice to host the 2027 edition of the tournament, marking the first time the event will be held in the Middle East and North Africa region.
The International Federation cited Qatar’s outstanding sports facilities, strong commitment to sports development, and its successful track record in hosting major sports events, including the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, as key factors behind its decision.

الدوحة: استلمت دولة قطر اليوم الكرة الرسمية لبطولة كأس العالم للسلة 2027 خلال حفل أُقيم خصيصاً لهذه المناسبة على هامش حفل ختام بطولة كأس العالم للسلة 2023 في العاصمة الفلبينية، مانيلا.
وخلال هذا الحفل، قدَّم مانويل بانجيلينان، رئيس لجنة تنظيم بطولة كأس العالم 2023 في الفلبين، الكرة إلى هيمان نيانغ، رئيس الاتحاد الدولي لكرة السلة. بدوره، قام نيانغ بتسليمها إلى محمد المغيصيب، رئيس اتحاد كرة السلة في قطر، والشيخة أسماء ال ثاني، مديرة قسم التسويق والاتصال في اللجنة الأولمبية القطرية.
وكان الاتحاد الدولي لكرة السلة قد أعلن مُسبقاً عن قطر كمضيف لبطولة كأس العالم 2027 خلال اجتماعه في مانيلا في 28 إبريل. جاء هذه القرار بعد تقييم دقيق للعروض المقدمة من الدول المرشحة. واعتبرت دولة قطر الخيار الأبرز لاستضافة نسخة 2027 من البطولة، وهو الحدث الأول من نوعه في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا.
وأشار الاتحاد الدولي إلى المرافق الاستثنائية التي تمتلكها دولة قطر، واهتمامها الكبير بتطوير الرياضة، ومسارها الناجح في استضافة الأحداث الرياضية الكبيرة، بما في ذلك كأس العالم لكرة القدم في قطر 2022، كأسباب وراء هذا القرار.
