U.S. Reveals Size of its Nuclear Stockpile

Doha: The U.S. State Department revealed the U.S. stockpile of nuclear weapons, noting the importance of increasing transparency about countries’ nuclear stockpiles as part of non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament efforts.

As of September 2020, the United States had 3,750 warheads, a rough 88 ٪ decrease from the maximum of 31,255 at the end of financial year 1967, and an approximate 83 ٪ reduction from 1989/22217 when the Berlin Wall fell, according to a State Department statement.

During the 1994-2020 financial years, the United States dismantled 11,683 nuclear warheads and dismantled 711 nuclear warheads since September 30, 2017, the statement said, adding that about 200 nuclear warheads are awaiting dismantling.

The number of non-strategic U.S. nuclear weapons has fallen by more than 90 % since September 30, 1991.

الدوحة: كشفت وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية عن مخزون الولايات المتحدة من الأسلحة النووية، مشيرة إلى أهمية زيادة الشفافية بشأن المخزونات النووية للدول ضمن جهود منع الانتشار ونزع الأسلحة النووية.

وأفاد بيان للخارجية الأمريكية، بأن الولايات المتحدة تمتلك 3750 رأسا حربيا اعتبارا من سبتمبر 2020، مضيفة أن هذا الرقم يمثل انخفاضا تقريبيا بنسبة 88 بالمئة عن المخزون في الحد الأقصى /31255/ في نهاية السنة المالية لعام 1967، وتخفيضا تقريبيا بنسبة 83 بالمئة عن مستواه في عام 1989 /22217/ عندما سقط جدار برلين.

وأشار البيان إلى أنه خلال السنوات المالية 1994-2020، فككت الولايات المتحدة /11683/ رأسا نوويا، كما فككت 711 رأسا نوويا منذ 30 سبتمبر 2017، مضيفة أن هناك حوالي 200 رأس نووي تنتظر التفكيك.

وقد انخفض عدد الأسلحة النووية الأمريكية غير الاستراتيجية بأكثر من 90 في المائة منذ 30 سبتمبر 1991.
