Earthquake Hits Turkish Burdur

Ankara: A moderate earthquake of 4.3 degrees on the Richter scale hit on Sunday Burdur Province, southwestern Turkey.

Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) said in a statement that the tremor occurred this morning at a depth of 11.74 km.

According to the sources, no material or human damage was reported.

Turkey is exposed from time to time to strong earthquakes and tremors, due to the country falling on a number of overlapping plates of the earth’s crust, and experts expect that the Istanbul region is threatened by a strong earthquake soon.

Turkey lies on major seismic fault lines, and has previously been hit by devastating earthquakes, one near Istanbul in 1999 that killed more than 17,000 people.

أنقرة: ضربت هزة متوسطة القوة بلغت 4.3 درجة على مقياس ريختر يوم أمس، ولاية بوردور جنوب غرب تركيا.

وأوضحت إدارة الطوارئ والكوارث التركية /آفاد/ في بيان أن الهزة وقعت صباح اليوم على عمق 11.74 كم .

وبحسب المصادر لم يتم الإبلاغ عن أي أضرار مادية أو بشرية.

الجدير بالذكر أن تركيا تتعرض مِن حين إلى آخر لزلازل وهزّات أرضية قوية، بسبب وقوع البلاد على عدد من الصفائح المتداخلة للقشرة الأرضية، ويتوقّع خبراء أن منطقة إسطنبول مهددة بزلزال قوي قريب .

وتقع تركيا على خطوط صدع زلزالية رئيسية، وسبق أن ضربتها زلازل مدمرة، كان أحدها بالقرب من إسطنبول عام 1999 وأسفر عن مقتل أكثر من 17 ألف شخص.
