Doha: HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari met on Sunday with HE British Minister for Investment at the Department for International Trade and the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Lord Gerald Grimstone, who is currently visiting the country.
During the meeting, they reviewed aspects of joint cooperation in the commercial, investment and industrial fields and ways to enhance and develop them, in addition to discussing trade policies between the two countries and the efforts made by the two sides in the context of confronting the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
During the meeting, HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry highlighted the economic policies adopted by the State of Qatar and their role in contributing to removing restrictions on foreign investment and providing more investment opportunities for companies looking to invest in Qatar.
The volume of trade exchange between the State of Qatar and the United Kingdom amounted to nearly USD3 billion during 2020, making the UK the seventh trade partner of the State of Qatar.
The meeting was attended by HE British Trade Commissioner for the Middle East Simon Benny.

الدوحة: اجتمع سعادة السيد علي بن أحمد الكواري وزير التجارة والصناعة، اليوم، مع سعادة اللورد جيرالد غريمستون، وزير الدولة البريطاني للاستثمار بوزارة التجارة، ووزارة الأعمال والطاقة الاستراتيجية الصناعية، الذي يزور البلاد حاليا.
جرى خلال الاجتماع استعراض أوجه التعاون المشترك في المجالات التجارية والاستثمارية والصناعية وسبل تعزيزها وتطويرها، إلى جانب مناقشة السياسات التجارية بين البلدين والجهود التي بذلها الجانبان في إطار مواجهة جائحة فيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/.
وسلط سعادة وزير التجارة والصناعة، خلال اللقاء، الضوء على السياسات الاقتصادية التي تبنتها دولة قطر والدور الذي أسهمت من خلاله في إزالة القيود أمام الاستثمار الأجنبي وتوفير المزيد من الفرص الاستثمارية أمام الشركات الراغبة بالاستثمار في قطر.
تجدر الإشارة إلى أن حجم التبادل التجاري بين دولة قطر والمملكة المتحدة بلغ ما يقارب 3 مليارات دولار أمريكي خلال العام 2020، لتكون بذلك المملكة المتحدة الشريك التجاري رقم 7 لدولة قطر.
حضر الاجتماع سعادة السيد سايمون بيني، المفوض التجاري الخاص لملكة المملكة المتحدة في الشرق الأوسط.
