President of the Philippines Retires from Politics, Won’t Run for Vice-President in 2022

Manila: President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte announced today his retirement from politics, saying he will not run for the vice-president role in 2022.
He said that he retired in response to the public wishes, with some viewing his run for vice-president would be unconstitutional. Senator Bong Go, member of Duterte’s ruling Filipino Democratic Party, said that he will run for vice-President instead of the current president.
Duterte was elected in 2016. According to the constitution in the Philippines, presidents can run for one term that lasts six years. Some of Duterte’s opposition said that they would question the legality of vice-presidential nomination before the Supreme Court, which ultimately led to his announcement yesterday.

مانيلا: أعلن الرئيس الفلبيني رودريغو دوتيرتي اليوم انسحابه من الحياة السياسية، وأنه لن يترشح لمنصب نائب الرئيس في العام 2022 .
وأضاف دوتيرتي، في تصريح له اليوم، “الشعور السائد لدى الفلبينيين هو أنني لست مؤهلا، وأن الترشح لمنصب نائب الرئيس سيكون انتهاكا للدستور”.. موضحا “أعلن اليوم انسحابي من الحياة السياسية”.
وقال السناتور /كريستوفر بونج جو/ الذي ينتمي للحزب الديمقراطي الفلبيني، وهو حزب دوتيرتي، إنه سيخوض السباق بدلا من الرئيس الحالي.
وكان دوتيرتي قد انتخب لرئاسة البلاد في العام 2016 ، ويحظر الدستور ترشحه لولاية ثانية ولكنه كان أعلن في وقت سابق الترشح لمنصب نائب الرئيس ما جعل معارضيه يقولون إن قراره التفات على الدستور، لينتهي إلى إعلانه يوم الأمس بالانسحاب من الحياة السياسية.
