Pfizer CEO predicts when life will return to normal

Albert Bourla, CEO of Pfizer, the producer of the COVID-19 vaccine, predicted that life would return to normal within one year.
This does not mean that variants will not exist or that vaccines will not be necessary, he said. “The most likely scenario is that the world will continue to see new variants and we will continue to receive vaccines for at least a year,” he said, adding, according to Russia Today: “There may be a need to take a dose of the vaccine annually each year… In any case, we need to wait and see the data.”
Pfizer’s CEO’s remarks are consistent with statements made by Stéphane Bansell, CEO of Moderna, the producer of one of the anti-Corona vaccines, a few days ago in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Neue Tsurcher Zeitung, saying in response to a question about whether this would mean a return to normalcy in the second half of next year, “starting today, I suppose it will be within a year.”
“Given the expansion of production capacity in this sector over the past six months, sufficient doses will be available by the middle of next year so that all the world’s population can be vaccinated,” he said, predicting the availability of booster doses in the required volume, stressing that vaccination will soon be available even for infants.

وأوضح أن هذا لا يعني أن المتغيرات لن تكون موجودة أو أن اللقاحات لن تكون ضرورية، مشيراً إلى أن “السيناريو الأكثر احتمالاً هو أن العالم سيستمر في رؤية متغيرات جديدة وسنستمر في تلقي اللقاحات لسنة على الأقل”، مضيفاً، بحسب موقع روسيا اليوم: “قد تكون هناك حاجة إلى أخذ جرعة من اللقاح بشكل سنوي من كل عام… وعلى كل حال نحن بحاجة إلى الانتظار ورؤية البيانات”.
وتأتي تصريحات رئيس فايزر متوافقة مع التصريحات التي أطلقها ستيفان بانسل الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة موديرنا المنتجة لأحد اللقاحات المضادة لكورونا قبل أيام في مقابلة مع صحيفة “نويه تسورخر تسايتونغ” السويسرية قائلاً رداً على سؤال بشأن ما إن كان هذا يعني العودة إلى الأوضاع الطبيعية في النصف الثاني من العام المقبل “بدءاً من اليوم، أفترض أن يكون ذلك في غضون عام”.
وأضاف: “بالنظر إلى التوسع في قدرات الإنتاج بهذا القطاع على مدى الشهور الستة الماضية، فإن جرعات كافية ستكون متوفرة بحلول منتصف العام المقبل بحيث يمكن تطعيم جميع سكان العالم”، متوقعاً توفر جرعات معززة بالحجم المطلوب، مؤكداً في السياق أن التطعيم سيكون متاحاً في وقت قريب حتى للرضع.
