Speaker of Shura Council Meets IPU President

Doha: HE Speaker of the Shura Council Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud met on Monday with HE President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco, who is currently visiting the country.
At the outset of the meeting, HE the Speaker of the Shura Council welcomed HE the IPU President and congratulated him on his election as President of the Union, and praised his speech before the Shura Council.
HE the Speaker of the Shura Council underlined the keenness of the Council on developing the cooperation with the IPU, and renewed thanks to the Union for its support for the UNOCT Programme Office on Parliamentary Engagement in Preventing and Countering Terrorism, which was agreed to be headquartered in Doha and its activities cover the parliaments of the world. HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud also looked forward to the IPU support for the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption, which elected HE the Speaker of the Shura Council as its Chairman, and its Secretariat General will be headquartered in Doha.
For his part, HE President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco praised the active role of the Shura Council, its initiatives and appreciated contributions to promoting the parliamentary work regionally and internationally, and expressed his happiness to visiting the State of Qatar as his first official visit since his election as the IPU President in November 2020.
During the meeting, they discussed means of developing the cooperation between the Shura Council and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and ways to improve the Unions performance and enhance its role which expresses the aspirations of peoples in various countries of the world.
The meeting was attended by HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Sulaiti, and members of the Shura Council HE Dahlan bin Jamaan Al Hamad, HE Mohammed bin Mahdi Al Ahbabi and HE Reem Mohammed Al Mansouri.

الدوحة: اجتمع سعادة السيد أحمد بن عبدالله بن زيد آل محمود رئيس مجلس الشورى، الأمس، مع سعادة السيد دوارتي باتشيكو رئيس الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي الذي يزور البلاد حاليا.
في بداية الاجتماع جدد سعادة رئيس مجلس الشورى، ترحيبه بسعادة رئيس الاتحاد وتهنئته بانتخابه رئيساً للاتحاد، مشيداً بكلمته المعبرة أمام مجلس الشورى.
وأكد سعادة السيد أحمد بن عبدالله بن زيد آل محمود حرص مجلس الشورى على تطوير التعاون مع الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي، وجدد شكره للاتحاد على دعمه ومساندته لمكتب برنامج الأمم المتحدة المعني بالمشاركة البرلمانية في مكافحة الإرهاب الذي تم الاتفاق على إقامة مقره في الدوحة والذي تغطي أنشطته كافة برلمانات دول العالم، وأعرب عن تطلعه لدعم الاتحاد للمنظمة العالمية للبرلمانيين ضد الفساد التي انتخبت سعادة رئيس مجلس الشورى لرئاستها والتي ستكون الدوحة مقراً لأمانتها العامة.
وأشاد سعادة رئيس الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي، خلال الاجتماع، بالدور الفاعل لمجلس الشورى ومبادراته وإسهاماته المقدرة في تعزيز العمل البرلماني إقليمياً ودولياً، وأعرب عن سعادته بزيارة دولة قطر، في أول زيارة رسمية يقوم بها منذ انتخابه رئيسا للاتحاد في مطلع نوفمبر من العام الماضي.
وجرى خلال الاجتماع مناقشة تطوير التعاون بين مجلس الشورى والاتحاد البرلماني الدولي، وسبل الارتقاء بأداء الاتحاد وتعزيز دوره، كمعبر عن تطلعات الشعوب في مختلف دول العالم.
حضر الاجتماع سعادة السيد محمد بن عبدالله السليطي نائب رئيس مجلس الشورى، وسعادة السيد دحلان بن جمعان الحمد، وسعادة السيدة ريم بنت محمد المنصوري عضوا المجلس.
