Asian Parliamentary Group agree on protecting rights of Palestinian people

DOHA: The representatives of the Asian Parliamentary Group have agreed on protecting the rights of the Palestinian people and rejecting to recognise Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, warning against the growing phenomenon of Islamophobia in the world.

The representatives decided to form a sub-committee to draft a joint emergency item on these issues after having agreement of on their importance for the Asian peoples.

This came during the coordination meeting of the Asian Parliamentary Group during the 140th session of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and related meetings taking place in Doha.

The session was chaired by Mustafa Sentop, President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) and Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, and Mohammad Reza Majidi, Secretary General of the APA.

The meeting witnessed positive discussions and remarkable consensus on three proposals submitted by the State of Kuwait, Turkey and Indonesia concerning the protection of the Palestinian people and the occupied Golan Heights and combating Islamophobia as a form of racism against Muslim people.

The representative of Kuwait proposed an initial text until it was finally approved by the joint committee. The proposal stipulated the support of the Asian Parliamentary Group for “protecting the Palestinian people, rejecting to recognise Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, promoting the values of coexistence among peoples and religions in the world, and warning against the growing phenomenon of Islamophobia which directly affects the human rights’.

Mustafa Sentop, President of the APA, emphasised the success of the Asian continent in economic growth, reduction of poverty, promotion of infrastructure and sustainable development plans. He also stressed that the major objectives of the APA is to achieve comprehensive and sustainable development of the peoples of Asia.

He also reviewed the Turkish efforts to strengthen cooperation with Asian countries at all political, economic and commercial levels, as well as enhancing international peace and security by combating various forms of terrorist organizations.

In a related context, the President of APA said the terrorist attack in Christchurch, New Zealand, that claimed lives of 50 Muslims is a racist incident, stressing that terrorism aimed at the harmony of Muslims in different communities around the world.

He also emphasised Turkey’s participation in all attempts to secure the region and end the conflict in Syria, and refused the establishment of settlements on the Palestinian territories by the Israeli occupation. He stressed that Trump’s recognition of Israeli’s sovereignty over the Syrian Heights contradicts the international laws and the principles of the United Nations and called for review of the decision and should be dealt with in accordance to the international law.

Sentop noted that Turkey is trying to play the role of mediator to heal the rift in these regional disputes, stressing the need for dialogue for settling the outstanding problems.

He stressed that Asian countries have the potential to play an active role in these issues and achieve the economic well-being of their peoples in a way that promotes international peace and stability.

For his part, Mohamed Reza Majidi, Secretary General of APA, reviewed the activities of the Assembly during the past year and the most important meetings on its agenda next year, including a meeting on sustainable development to be held in China, in addition to other meetings in Iraq, Iran and Turkey.

اتفق ممثلو برلمانات آسيا على حماية حقوق الشعب الفلسطيني ورفض الاعتراف بالسيادة الإسرائيلية على هضبة الجولان السورية، إضافة إلى التحذير من تنامي ظاهرة الإسلاموفوبيا في العالم.

وقرروا تشكيل لجنة مصغّرة لصياغة مشتركة لبند طارئ خاص بهذه القضايا، بعد توافق الجميع على أهميتها للشعوب الآسيوية.

جاء ذلك في الاجتماع التنسيقي للجمعية البرلمانية الآسيوية ضمن أعمال الدورة الـ 140 للجمعية العامة للاتحاد البرلماني الدولي والاجتماعات المصاحبة التي تستضيفها الدوحة في الفترة من 6-10 أبريل الحالي.

ترأّس الجلسة سعادة السيد مصطفى شنتوب رئيس الجمعية البرلمانية الآسيوية ورئيس البرلمان التركي، ومحمد رضا مجيدي الأمين العام للجمعية.

وشهد الاجتماع مداولات إيجابية وتوافق لافت حول 3 مقترحات قدّمتها كل من الكويت وتركيا وإندونيسيا تتعلق بحماية الشعب الفلسطيني، وعروبة الجولان المحتلة، ومكافحة الإسلاموفوبيا بوصفها أحد أشكال العنصرية ضد الشعوب المسلمة.

واقترح ممثل الكويت صيغة مبدئية لحين التوافق على صياغتها في اللجنة المشتركة بصورة نهائية.

وتنص على دعم المجموعة البرلمانية الآسيوية لـ «حماية الشعب الفلسطيني ورفض الاعتراف بالسيادة الإسرائيلية على الجولان وتعزيز قيم التعايش المشترك بين الشعوب والأديان في العالم، والتحذير من تنامي ظاهرة الإسلاموفوبيا التي تهدد الشعوب وتمس حقوق الإنسان بشكل مباشر».

واستهل سعادة السيد مصطفي شنتوب -رئيس الجمعية البرلمانية الآسيوية- حديثه بالتأكيد على ما حققته القارة الآسيوية من نجاحات في النمو الاقتصادي وتقليل معدلات الفقر وتعزيز خطط البنية التحتية والتنمية المستدامة. مؤكداً أن الهدف الأساسي للجمعية البرلمانية الآسيوية هو تنمية شاملة ومستدامة لشعوب آسيا.

واستعرض الجهود التركية لتعزيز التعاون مع دول القارة الآسيوية على المستويات السياسية والاقتصادية والتجارية كافة، وأيضاً تعزيز الأمن والسلم الدوليين عبر مكافحة التنظيمات الإرهابية المختلفة.

وأكد رئيس الجمعية البرلمانية الآسيوية، في سياق متصل، أن الحادث الإرهابي الذي راح ضحيته عدد من المسلمين في نيوزيلندا يُعدّ حادثاً عنصرياً. مشدداً على أن الإرهاب يستهدف التناغم الذي يعيشه المسلمون في مختلف المجتمعات حول العالم.

كما أشار إلى مشاركة تركيا في كل محاولات تأمين المنطقة وإنهاء النزاع في سوريا، ورفض ترسيخ الاحتلال الإسرائيلي الممنهج بإقامة المستوطنات على الأراضي الفلسطينية. وأكد أن اعتراف ترمب بتبعية الجولان لإسرائيل يتناقض مع القوانين الدولية للأمم المتحدة، ويجب مراجعة هذا القرار والتعامل معه وفقاً للقانون الدولي.

ونوّه بأن تركيا تحاول لعب دور الوسيط لرأب الصدع في هذه النزاعات الإقليمية، وتؤكد على ضرورة الحوار في المشاكل العالقة. وشدد على أن الدول الآسيوية لديها إمكانية لعب دور فعّال في هذه القضايا، وتحقيق الرفاه الاقتصادي لشعوبها بما يعزز السلام والاستقرار الدوليين.
