Qatar’s well-being performance rises

Qatar has improved its position as a top global performer across several Sustainable Economic Development Assessment (SEDA) well-being dimensions, according to a new report compiled by

Boston Global Consulting Group (BCG), titled Measure Well-Being to Improve It: The 2019 Sustainable Economic Development Assessment. Placing in the top quartile after ranking 30th from 143 countries in the latest SEDA scores, Qatar has made strong improvements across several SEDA dimensions.

SEDA is a comprehensive diagnostic tool that assesses the relative well-being of countries. Qatar’s wealth to well-being coefficient rose in comparison to 2008’s score, with the report labeling the nation’s overall well-being performance as ‘good and improving’.

Evaluation of Qatar’s performance over the last 12 years, income and employment has been Qatar’s top performing dimension. More recently, Qatar has recorded notable improvements in economic stability and infrastructure performance. In spite of a strong performance across many dimensions, the report also found that Qatar could benefit from more increased attention towards further improving its focus on certain areas such as economic stability, education and environment, as the country lags behind global peers on these dimensions.

“Governments today face massive challenges, including the disruption created by rapid technological advances,” says Joao Hrotko, a BCG partner and coauthor of the report.

“Those factors will change what it takes for both public- and private-sector players to succeed in the next decade. Governments in particular must gain deep insight into the experiences of their citizens in order to address potentially overlooked problems, including social inequality.”

“Qatar has emerged as a strong global performer across most SEDA dimensions – both in 2019 and over the last 12-year period, evident by the country’s performance when compared to the rest of the world.

This is a testimony of the country’s continued focus on building a sustainable and continuously developing system,” said Harold Haddad, Partner & Managing Director at BCG. “We believe Qatar’s overall well-being performance could benefit from intensified investment into education, economic stability and environment to remain competitive amongst global leaders.”

The findings from BCG’s 2019 Sustainable Economic Development Assessment analysis denote that there is a much stronger correlation between social equality and well-being than between income equality and well-being. The research is based on BCG’s proprietary Sustainable Economic Development Assessment, a comprehensive diagnostic tool that assesses the relative well-being of countries.

أظهر تقرير جديد أصدرته مجموعة بوسطن كونسلتينج أمس، بعنوان «قياس الرفاهية الاجتماعية والعمل على تطويرها: تقييم التنمية الاقتصادية المستدامة في 2019»، تحسن مركز دولة قطر عالمياً في العديد من محاور الرفاهية الاجتماعية التي حددها مؤشر تقييم التنمية الاقتصادية العالمية، حيث انتقلت قطر إلى فئة الدول المتقدمة في الرفاهية الاجتماعية بعدما احتلت المرتبة 30 بين 143 دولة، وذلك نتيجة الجهود التي بذلتها الدولة لتعزيز الرفاهية في العديد من النواحي الاجتماعية والاقتصادية لسكانها، ما أسهم في تحسن مركزها في العديد من محاور الرفاهية التي يغطيها مؤشر تقييم التنمية الاقتصادية المستدامة.

خلص التقرير إلى تحسن مستوى الرفاهية في دولة قطر مقارنة بنتائج عام 2008، حيث وصف التقرير أداء الرفاهية العام بأنه «جيد ويشهد تحسناً ملحوظاً» على مستوى الدولة، وقد شهد أداء دولة قطر على مدى السنوات الاثنتي عشرة الماضية، تحسناً استثنائياً على مستوى الدخل والعمالة، كما شهدت في الآونة الأخيرة تحسناً ملحوظاً على مستوى الاستقرار الاقتصادي وأداء البنية التحتية.

وتعليقاً على النتائج قال جواو هروتكو شريك بمجموعة بوسطن كونسلتينج، ومشارك في إعداد التقرير: «تواجه الحكومات اليوم تحديات هائلة، بما في ذلك التعامل مع التغيرات التي سببها التطور التكنولوجي السريع، وستؤدي هذه العوامل إلى تغيير متطلبات الأطراف الفاعلة الرئيسية في القطاعين العام والخاص لتحقيق النجاح خلال العقد المقبل، حيث يتعين على الحكومات التعمق بشكل خاص في دراسة وتحليل تجارب مواطنيها لمعالجة أية مشكلات، بما في ذلك تحقيق المساواة الاجتماعية».

من جهته، قال هارولد حداد مدير مفوض وشريك بمجموعة بوسطن كونسلتينج: «حققت دولة قطر أداء عالمياً متميزاً في العديد من محاور مؤشر تقييم التنمية الاقتصادية المستدامة سواء في عام 2019 أو خلال الاثني عشر عاماً الماضية، ويتجلى ذلك في أدائها مقارنة ببقية دول العالم، ويعتبر هذا التحسن دليلاً على توجه الدولة المستمر نحو بناء نظام مستدام ومتطور».
