Kabul airport reopens to receive aid: Qatari envoy

A technical team has been able to reopen Kabul airport to receive aid and it will be prepared for civilian flights soon, according to Qatar’s ambassador to Afghanistan.
The runway at the airport has been repaired in cooperation with authorities in Afghanistan, the ambassador added on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the United States Congress is expected to finance United Nations’ humanitarian work in Afghanistan but is unlikely to directly fund a new Taliban-led government, according to US officials, as the world body prepares to discuss aid for the war-torn country.
UN chief Antonio Guterres is travelling to Geneva to convene a high-level conference on aid for Afghanistan on September 13.
The Taliban has yet to form a government, but there have been reports that an announcement is imminent.
This comes as fighting continues between the Taliban and resistance fighters in Panjshir Valley north of Kabul, raising fears of more civilians being displaced. The Panjshir Valley is the last province in Afghanistan holding out against the Taliban.

كشفت قناة “الجزيرة” عن استئناف تسيير الرحلات الداخلية لمطار كابل بعد نجاح الفريق الفني القطري في إنجاز الإصلاحات الفنية واللوجستية اللازمة لإعادة تشغيله.
ووفق تقرير لموقع “الجزيرة”، فقد انطلقت أول رحلة داخلية من مطار كابل إلى مزار شريف كما انطلقت رحلة أخرى إلى هرات، بعدما نجح الفريق القطري في إعادة تأهيل المطار وإصلاح برج المراقبة وتسيير الرحلات المحلية بشكل آمن.
وكان سعادة السفير سعيد مبارك الخيارين سفير دولة قطر لدى أفغانستان قد أعلن – عبر تصريحات لـ “الجزيرة” – أن الفريق الفني القطري عمل لمدة 5 أيام متواصلة ونجح في إعادة تشغيل مطار كابل بشكل جزئي.
وأضاف أن الفريق القطري تمكن من إصلاح الرادار وبرج الاتصالات والمدرج وتوفير الأمن داخل وخارج المطار.
وكان مصدر في حركة طالبان قد قال إن فريقًا فنيًا قطريًا قام بإصلاح ونصب رادار في المطار.
وأشار السفير القطري إلى بدء وصول الرحلات المخصصة للمساعدات والإغاثات الإنسانية من جميع أنحاء العالم، وعلى رأسها خامس طائرة قطرية تحمل 15 طنًا من المساعدات الغذائية، لافتًا إلى أن الرحلات الإنسانية ستستمر خلال الأيام المقبلة.
وشدد على أن العمل جار من أجل إصلاح باقي الأمور الفنية الأخرى، وأنه سيتم تشغيل الرحلات الدولية “قريبًا”، لافتًا إلى تسيير رحلتين مدنيتين داخليتين للطيران الأفغاني اليوم إلى مزار شريف وقندهار.
