Amir directs $150m QFFD aid for Gaza Strip

DOHA: Upon the directives of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has announced $150m in emergency aid to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the besieged Gaza Strip for years.
Approximately two million people live in the Gaza Strip in an area of only 365 square kilometres and cannot move beyond this narrow geographical area. People in Gaza are also prohibited from many items necessary for a decent life, in addition to the daily suffocating conditions, where electricity is cut off most of the day, which negatively affects the vital facilities, including educational and healthcare institutions, especially in the hot summer months and in the cold winter.
Over the past ten years, the Strip has been subjected to two wars that have destroyed infrastructure, including educational and health projects in which the State of Qatar contributed to along with the international institutions and European countries.
This support comes within the context of alleviating the suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people, who lost many of their children, youth and women either in confrontations with the Israeli occupation forces or because of poor living conditions and poor health care, QNA reported.
QFFD in compliance with the directives of H H the Amir, and his affirmation that the State of Qatar will continue to support the brethren Palestinians, will work urgently to activate this package of assistance through the United Nations Development Program and the concerned international bodies.
In a related development, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has expressed his deep appreciation for the State of Qatar’s contribution to provide fuel to the Gaza Strip to generate electricity in order to help reduce human suffering and respond to public health needs.
“The Secretary-General expresses his deep appreciation to the Government of Qatar for its $60m contribution, which made this delivery of the fuel possible and provide a welcomed supply of electricity in the Strip for the coming months,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement in New York.
“Fuel for the Gaza Power Plant remains the fastest and most immediate way to increase electricity to help decrease the humanitarian issues and provide related public health needs for the region,” Dujarric added.
The United Nations and its various institutions have issued numerous calls warning of the consequences of what is happening in Gaza and leaving the humanitarian situation to explode. It also called on the international community to rush to relief the Palestinians and to fill the deficit caused by violation by some States of their official and humanitarian obligations to the Palestinian people.

ويعيش في قطاع غزة حوالي مليوني إنسان في مساحة لا تتجاوز 365 كيلومترا مربعا، ولا يستطيعون الحركة خارج هذا النطاق الجغرافي الضيق نسبةً إلى عدد السكان، كما تحظر عليهم كثير من المواد الضرورية للحياة الكريمة، بالإضافة إلى الأوضاع اليومية الخانقة، حيث ينقطع التيار الكهربائي معظم ساعات الْيَوْم مما يؤثر سلبا على المرافق الحيوية، سواء التعليمية أو الصحية وخصوصا في شهور الصيف الحارة وفِي الشتاء البارد، حيث تتضاعف المعاناة.
وقد تعرض القطاع خلال العشر سنوات الماضية إلى حربين أدتا إلى تدمير البنية التحتية ومنها مشروعات تعليمية وصحية أسهمت فيها دولة قطر إلى جانب مؤسسات أممية ودوّل أوروبية، لذا فإنّ هذا الدعم يأتي في سياق التخفيف على الشعب الفلسطيني الشقيق والذي فقد كثيرا من أطفاله وشبابه ونسائه إما في مواجهات مع قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي أو بسبب سوء الظروف المعيشية وضعف الرعاية الصحية.
وقد أطلقت الأمم المتحدة ومؤسساتها المختلفة العديد من النداءات التي تحذر فيها من مآلات ما يحدث في غزة وترك الوضع الإنساني للانفجار، كما دعت المجتمع الدولي إلى المسارعة لغوث الفلسطينيين وسدّ العجز الذي نتج عن إخلال بعض الدول بالتزاماتها الرسمية والإنسانية تجاه الشعب الفلسطيني.
وصندوق قطر للتنمية امتثالا لتوجيهات حضرة صاحب السمو أمير البلاد المفدى، وتأكيد سموه على مواصلة دولة قطر دعم الاشقاء الفلسطينيين، سيعمل بشكل عاجل لتفعيل هذه الحزمة من المساعدات من خلال برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي والجهات الأممية المعنية.;
